So.. never been to a wedding for someone I actually know. What should me and my "date" wear? 9/19/2008 10:24:43 PM |

It usually says on wedding invitation.
normally suit and tie though but you could get away with a nice shirt + tie and nice pants if you want. 9/19/2008 10:35:28 PM |

nice shirt, tie, slacks
the girl should wear a nice skirt and blouse or dress--moderate(hits just above the knee, substantial straps if sleeveless), not too bright or flashy, not white 9/20/2008 1:43:06 AM |

Wear a fucking suit. Don't embarrass yourself. Tell your date to wear a cocktail dress or floral dress depending on evening vs. daytime. 9/20/2008 1:52:42 AM |

It should say on the invitation.
I would hope you're dating someone smart enough to figure out what to wear at a wedding I could see guys not knowing but I've never met a girl who didn't have an idea of what was acceptable wedding attire. 9/20/2008 6:57:32 AM |

as said, depends on the time of the wedding and time of year
for an afternoon wedding, suit for you and dress for her. a dress like she might would wear to church or similar function would probably be ok. some embellishment is fine. nothing too short, too low cut, or too flashy. something you would look at and describe as "classy". say no to sequins. attention should be on the bridal party, not the people dressed inappropriately in the audience.
for an evening wedding, dark suit for you or tux (invite would usually tell you if you needed a tux). for her, a cocktail dress or formal pant or skirt suit with blouse. no "prom" dresses. again some embellishment is fine. nothing too short, too low cut, or too flashy. something you would look at and describe as "classy". 9/20/2008 10:04:03 AM |

i'm sure she'd figure it out, she's a smart girl--but it never hurts to ask just to be sure

If this wedding is in the South, no one will think twice about nice khakis (not cargos or wrinkly ripped crap) with a navy blazer and necktie or bowtie. That's the classic look of a Southern gentleman. 9/24/2008 11:09:53 AM |

I would think ladies should avoid wearing black at a wedding (because in my mind that says "funeral"), but she says it was once frowned upon but is now oh-so-chic

that dress is adorable!!! I want!!
I just went to a 430 wedding a few weekends ago....half the women were dressed in black dresses (myself included) or some dress of a dark fabric, the other half were in summery colored (either pastel or bold colors). Men were in either suits or slacks/button down with a tie and jacket.
I personally preferred the more formal look as the reception ran into the evening, however during a very obvious daytime wedding, and, unless otherwise stated, I'd go for a more casual look (just not TOO casual). 9/28/2008 7:08:06 AM |

^^Yes, the style is. Although, it's slightly on the short side for a wedding.
