So I have a Compaq SR1417CL

I upgraded to 2 dvdrw drives. 2 HDD (200 & 120). Nvidia dual monitor card, 2 gigs ram.

Anyway. I have Vista Business Pro on it, and I keep it on all the time. I sat down to use it and the screens were black and it was off. Now from time to time it will auto update but will be sitting at the login screen when I get to it.

So I hit power. Nothing. I flipped the supply off an on several times and I got it to power up. It hit the compaq screen and died.

Took the side off and removed the battery. Unplugged it, and hit power a few times to try to discharge the capacitors and let the cmos reset.

Put it back in and fired it up. Hit the compaq screen and died again.

I thought I wasn't hearing one of my drives spinning so I took both drives out and went and got a new 40 gig and pulled my Vista install dvd out to start a fresh install. Figured I would get the data off the old drives later.

The dvd booted up and it said it was downloading the stuff for the install but then the damn screen went black again and stayed black.

Any ideas? If so, let me know.

additional info: Tried replacing the vid card. FX5200 with a 9200 I had lying around. Not good for two RGB outs as the new one only had an RGB and a DVI, but that didn't help.

I also noticed that the keyboard and mouse aren't lighting up... so, I'm guessing that it's the mobo.

Anyone got an extra p4 board processor lying around that they're willing to part with that will both fit in my Compaq case & use the same ram that is being used by my Compaq SR1417CL?

Thanks

It must have been something you said.

Test your power supply by unplugging it from the system and jumping pins 14 and 15. I've replaced many more power supplies than mobos.

If that runs good for a while plug it back in and check the voltages in the BIOS screen. If those look good I'd say you do need a new mobo.
