oh

one of those

omg sales = good!

i suppose you're gonna vouch for N'Sync now, too, huh?

right.

not to mention I'm pretty certain (99%) that Garth Brooks AND Shania Twain have albums in the top 10 of all time sales, AND I think the fucking BODYGUARD SOUNDTRACK is at least near the top 10.

k i'm really out now pz.

those are different genres, we're talking about hard rock

look at any list of hard rock/rock and roll/classic rock greatest bands list and you'll find them pretty high up

but I'm sure that's because all the music critics/experts voting aren't as smart as you

album sales --- so does that mean Eagles Greatist Hits, Led Zeppelin IV, and Thriller are all shitty albums because they've sold a lot?

hahaha gtfo

it's got nothing to do with being "smart"

i never made any inclination that i was "smart" in the least, as it doesn't pertain to any aspect of this argument.

but to say that 20 million bought Back in Black because it's good music is sleighting a lot of different factors.

hell, 50 million+ people voted for George W Buch twice.

just sayin, mere quantity and turnout are but a small piece of the picture. if you want my honest opinion, i'd say that many people bought that album because there are truly that many meat-headed fist-pumping Orange County Chopper shirt wearing numbskulls in the world. Doesn't mean they're general fan base is inherently bad, but it certainly doesn't mean it's good music. however, the grand culmination of either of our arguments is that taste is purely subjective, and by that reasoning, I digress.

^ of course it doesn't mean they're bad albums. but it definitely isn't the deciding factor in them being "good".

hell, people read Charles Bukowski and swear he's one of the greatest American writers of all time. that, my friend, is laughable.

there are also enough people who think Vin Diesel is a good actor.

it has a lot to do with taste, and exposure, too. if you play enough of a band's songs on the radio for 25 years, they're going to sell sell sell. I don't care who they are.

I thought it had nothing to do with being smart?

Anyways.. I still don't give a shit what you think because you're obviously some sort of music elitist. You don't have to like every genre of music, but to deny that AC/DC isn't one of the best rock bands of all-time, my friend, is laughable. The critics and fans all seem to be in a general consensus that they have in some way made a bigger impact on rock and roll music than quite a few other bands.

AC/DC are good at what they do...but they're just not interesting...at all

What is interesting is the effortlessness with which WillemJoel derailed this fucking thread...c'mon, guys, our favorite bands are all something other than AC/DC, right?

While it's true their albums are more or less the same stuff, I have heard that their live shows are pretty good

Bon Scott-era AC/DC is very interesting, at least to me... I love all the early albums, especially Powerage. After Back in Black, none of their albums were that good but there are still a couple of good songs in there... which is why I think I concert would be pretty good. They aren't playing their entire catalog, they're going to play their greatest hits, which would make for a pretty entertaining concert.

I bought tickets to sell them. Realized the were ticketmaster "paperless tickets" so I couldn't sell them. I Begrudgingly attended the show, had my world rocked, and had to re-evaluate everything I thought I knew. It was bad ass.

yeah pretty much... I just ignore most of the stuff post-Back in Black, take all the better songs and pretend they only came out with one more album.

That Powerage/Highway to Hell/Back in Black trio are the only three albums I really listen to all the way through

same here, and it was a kick ass show. those that are overly critical of AC/DC are forgetting what they are, they are just a hard rock band that doesn't take themselves too seriously. they have good rock songs, its not high art but its fun to listen to.

you should get a good set of earplugs. it actually makes everything sound better besides being better for your ears. just dont get the generic earplugs that reduce the volume but block out a certain range of frequencies making everything sound like crap. $15 reusable Hearos have been my friend for years now at live shows, especially with the amount I went to in college. I hate anytime I forget them for shows now.

And yea, AC/DC is somewhat decent to me if I listen to like 1 or 2 of the olddd albums. But thats about all I need in my collection for the occasional listen. For the most part I feel like they were decent (not great imo) hard rock band who, after initial success, simply re-released nearly the same darn album over and over with different lyrics. Extremely boring guitarwork but Scott was a decent vocalist. this is all my opinion of course.
