Yep, they tried to scam me today. I couldn't believe it when I saw a fucking white van pull up with two drug addicts in it. I was like, "dude, this can't be for real." Sure enough, after listening to this dude laugh and mumble incoherently for a minute or two I understood that he wanted to sell me speakers. They were in a white van with no windows on the side, it did have windows on the back. They drove off really quickly when I said I wasn't interested and then they went across the street to Brier Creek Shopping Center to dry to dump the $10 Chinese tower speakers on somebody else for $500.

They had a Commercial License Plate that read CF-7548.

Seriously, there are Police on here. Please get these fuckers, by all means. If you check that plate it should match up to a fucking white van. If not, they're rolling around the Brier Creek area with illegally swapped plates.

I posted in that thread about my fiance being approached by the white van speaker guys at the BJ's in Brier Creek....what is it about Brier Creek?

The problem is that it's not illegal to sell cheap stereo speakers for way too much money.

I do, I hate to see someone who is gullible get fucked over by two pieces of dog shit.

^Yes, that's true IMO. But I have a feeling something can be done about it if they catch them in the act lying about it and whatnot. It's a pretty big scam, it's probably illegal in some way.

there are a few laws it usually violates, sometimes they're not speakers at all just hollow shells, they often have brand names stamped on them that aren't right. And you usually need some sort of license to resell merchandise continuously, and permission to sell things on private property. Also there's a strong possibility that a lot of the things they do would legally be threatening or harassment.

We should fuck with them

and walk up to the people they're selling to and offer a better deal.

That's not going to do any good. I'd be willing to bet the crackheads who are working the van are nobodies in the organization. Getting rid of them is akin to busting the guy who sells drugs on the street corner. It will make no difference at all and there will be someone else out there tomorrow to take their place.

^^ I'd be willing to bet that somebody higher up owns that van though, it has commercial plates. That's why I think it should be taken down.

I too, fell for this scam roughly 4 years ago off of Hillsborough St. by Peace College.

While I knew something was shady, I talked them down to $100, and the speakers still are working great, 4 years later, in my man room.

So, while it's a scam, the speakers really aren't that bad.

part of me says ..... if you're willing to buy speakers that are presented to you in a manner that implies them being stolen..... you deserve to get taken....

Anyone want to make those scammers really like you? Here's how...

Spot them in a parking lot trying to work their scam on some unsuspecting victim. As soon as you confirm who they are, drive right past them, getting within 20 feet or closer, and shout out your window "It's a scam! Don't listen to those assholes!"

I've done this several times, and it makes the speakerguys extremely happy every time.

I was approached by this sort of thing my freshman year when I was doing the park and ride at the K-Mart. I had never heard of this scam before and turned it down instantaneously because I thought that it was stolen.

Just as to attest how cheap those speakers actually are, my old roommate was approached at the kangaroo on tryon. It went down like this:

White Van Crackhead: "Yo brotha, I got these nice as speakers... (same old line about delivery and too many whatever...retail is over Two Grand, i'll give em to you for $500"

Josh: "I don't have any money"

WVC: "There's an ATM right over there."

Josh: "I don't have any money in the bank either"

WVC: "I know you got something bro."

Josh: "All I have is twenty on me."

WVC: "Okay, I'll take it."

$20 dollar bucks. For real. They stopped working after about 5 months, but they sounded decent for a while.

^^not to call out your friend but if he knew they were pieces of shit and illegitimate why even give the guy $20? My room is wired up with logitech surround speakers that are a few years old, but they only cost 40 bucks off craigslist. Seems like if you pay these guys 20 cents you're as big a sucker as the guy who pays 2000 bucks

this is funny... my buddy lost his job and got on with one of these crews of guys selling speakers...he said they just rode around all day doing coke, selling speakers and arguing about which radio station to listen to. I think he did for a couple days and said fuck it.

Haha, a couple weeks ago I was hailed by a couple dudes in a suburban in the avent ferry food lion parking lot with the same lines. I felt like calling them out on their BS but figured it was more effort than it was worth.

White Van Speakers Spotting:

Today, about 12:15, at the BP just south of 40 on 401.

I was pumping gas when the dude started with "Don't think I'm crazy or anything, but do do you need an extra set of speakers for your house or anything?"

White van with NC plate number YNV-3035. Two white guys mid twenties to early thirties, both with tattoos on both arms.
