Are there actually new episodes or is it just the same episodes from the English series?

Supposedly they took time off from making the UK version to make this one so I assume they're new.

Ah, I'll have to start watching then. I missed it tonight but I will assume that HBO still will have it on demand.

I hope they have that crazy Scottish guy, he's my favorite of the characters.

And yeah, the show is really really dumb... but you either really like it or really hate it.

^

his show When the Whistle Blows is dumbed down so much with catchphrases and celebrities so it will appeal to the broadest audience possible and even though it gets ratings, it gets no respect from real actors and critics

and I thought I read somewhere it was really a direct commentary on Little Britain because of its catchphrases and stuff

All sitcoms use catch phrases... little britain is sketch comedy. When the Whistle Blows was an actual show. And Little Britain really doesn't use a lot of celebrities (granted, Rosie O'Donnell was on last night's episdoe)... it's pretty much just the two main dudes. And the comedy is pretty fucking smart... it's not dumb comedy. And it's freaking amazing that two actors can play that many very different characters

again, I have not seen a single second of the show and I'm not hating on it at all. But, every review I have seen on this show is that it is very crude and a low level of comedy -- resorting to jokes about fat people, penises, and poor people. And it relies heavily on catchphrases, something Gervais is obviously poking fun at -- the episode where he looks in the crowd and the audience all has t-shirts on with popular British catchphrases from recent tv shows, one of them is from Little Britain.

Quote :
"Gervais said he wanted to have a dig at shows that relied on catchphrases.
"People think it's maybe a shortcut - it's chasing ratings, trying to look for a hook," he said.
"

Also, just taking a quick look at Wikipedia, there have been a lot of guest stars on the show, just most of them are British.

i had the tv muted and saw commercials for this, and it looked horrible even without sound.

if there's one thing this show isn't, it's "smart comedy".

anyone else want to help me defend this show?

I think you all should watch more than one episode... particularly more than one "muted" episode... before forming a judgement. Once you get to know the characters, you will see that it's fucking hilarious. And, again, these dudes are talented as hell to be able to play that many very different characters

The show is bad ass. I love the BBC version. I had to tape last nights episode. The average american audience wont get it, and thats why HBO is playing it late at night. Its not designed to be massively popular here. But Im glad we get 6 more episodes.

It is definitely a good show if you get the humor, that's the thing. If you are expecting humor like they had in Extras then you will be disappointed.

I really wanted to like this show. I've been a fan of Matt Lucas for a while now, but I gave it 3 episodes and watching this show was more like torture than funny so I give up.

Anyone else still watching?
