"the woods" is their most bombastic rock album and "dig me out" is generally considered to be their signature record

it's very silly

but combine the silliness with garage rock sounds they were emulating in the '60s and you get some entertaining shit

Just because he's Indian and a film composer doesn't mean all of the music he makes is Bollywood music.

Neither Slumdog Millionaire nor 127 Hours are Bollywood films.

The Cellar Seas: Bad band, or worst band?

...But now for the real questions... did you actually major in film at state? Or some similar major?

Why is Procol Harum so relatively unknown? A Whiter Shade of Pale is one of the greatest songs ever.

^^ if it were up to me, the song would all be 10 BPM faster and they're be an extra guitar playing melodic counterpoint to the vocal...but it's not up to me

i did not major in film, but as a creative writing major i got a shit-ton of electives and a bunch of english equivalents that were filled by film classes

^ i'm not much for procol harum. a good jam, though.

no

BTBAM vocals make me laugh out loud, and as such i can't take any of their music seriously

which sucks, because what i've made it through is interesting enough

but the vocals sound like a horatio sanz character that was cut before rehearsal

which is to say i can see their appeal to 14 year olds

but not adults

I don't see how someone who obviously knows so much about music can have this stance after jocking the dick of a dude who screams over 4/4 bass lines for an entire set. How does a 2 person punk band appeal to adults more than BTBAM? Was it the vests? Or because you don't know BTBAM?

I'm just using your praise of Ed Schrader as an example in my attempt to understand. You clearly understand music, so I just don't get how you love one band and then hate on a band that clearly has more talent/creativity. There's a difference between not liking it and saying you don't see how adults could like it.

^^I gotta agree, wholly. I understand why some people can't dig BTBAM. I really do.

But to concede that Ed Schrader makes worthwhile music is merely a blind nod to unsigned horseshit.

There is no other way around that. At all.

Any "adult" who enjoys or appreciates the shit he records is just trolling people who have working ears.

If the professor is Devin Orgeron, take it. Guaranteed quality.

Ed Schrader appeals to me because I like Suicide and shit like that. I understand why people can't take Ed seriously, and it's partially his own fault; as soon as a song's over he breaks into this hyperactive "I hope you don't hate me" act that doesn't do anyone any good.

The talent/creativity issue is mostly one of taste and opinion. Yes, the BTBAM guys are tremendous instrumentalists. That's not my style and never has been, and that's okay. With that said, I'm not sure anyone's in a position to say that a guitarmony break in the middle of double-kick explosion is more or less creative than one man with a microphone and a backlit floor tom. Really, it's probably unfair to continue to use someone like Ed in this comparison, but the same arguments would operate on each side if I used something like Xiu Xiu, so whatever.

I'll admit that the comment about adults is silly hyperbole, but I'm sure people said the same thing about the Ramones. The unintentional comedy of those BTBAM vocals in my mind is tantamount to what existed in the minds of those who dismissed the Ramones when they saw that Dee Dee could barely bash out four notes on his bass, and I don't want to be that guy. By that token, I've tried to get past the vocals, and I can't. I literally start laughing. If that means I'm just a pop song guy, I'm a pop song guy. Sue me.

Most likely.

The Bible. It helped form the basis of literature, and most of the story forms and allusions you see later will be direct references to it. No, I'm not joking.

^^ some chick from georgia that stu or bj knows

to the best of my knowledge, the LW dudes have never met her

^ the fact that this song got famous is a totally unforeseen event. the label that made her recording makes vanity recordings for children of mediocre talent whose parents have too much money. this one just happened to go viral.

So, there I was, in the Goodwill store, looking at records.

Several of the record jackets had notches cut out. Why?

Are they like books without covers?

I can answer that one. When they used to give record stores/whoever vinyl for promos, they used to cut notches in the spine of record sleeves to tell a promo copy from a regular one. With CDs, they usually cut the same notch or punch a hole in the barcode.

sorry, vb
