because I'd be willing to spend A LOT

I was talking to my girlfriend about how some people are going to follow NMH on tour, which I think is a bit silly.

Her response: "We should follow Thee Oh Sees."

I agreed.

So, yes, a lot.

In Chicago for a week in Sept. Have only one leisure night -- the rest are meetings.

Want to see some music. My concert choices are: Joe Satriani, Johnny Winter, Lapalux, Shigeto/Beacon, Stardog Champion, Sugar Blue....or go to some hole-in-the wall blues or jazz club.

I'd pick the last option. Ask around at the hotel where a good no-bullshit club is at.

how well known is the fact that the drummer of Spoon is an alumnus of NC State?

because I've been a fan of them for 10+ years and I just found out 5 minutes ago

omg

that farewell dance made my day

still pissed that Bunheads got canceled

^Sasha's Constantinople dance is one of my favorite dances they did on Bunheads. I also love the dance from the first episode where Michelle was telling the girls how a dance audition goes.

whats the strum pattern to across the universe? I just tried quarter + half, eighth and then four eighths and was unconventional but the closest to the sound I feel

it's different every time

generally the first strum of each change is a quarter and the rest are eighths but there's all sorts of flourishes in there

let your spirit be your guide

^^I'm getting a promo copy soon and I'm wondering how it'll sit with me. I love Pynchon but his ideas have definitely aged a lot, and it seems like this book operates in a very contemporary, digital setting--so I definitely wonder how he handled it. Also, anything that directly and plainly deals with 9/11 has a lot of terrible peers to contend with. Just historically for me as a reader, most 9/11 narratives are extremely heavy handed.

I'm glad Winston is getting good shows again. Just wish I had leave from work right now and could go.

No clue if you might be into this at all, but why doesn't Raleigh have more comedy venues? Charlie Goodnight's doesn't seem to go for any "alt" (stupid term) comics and sticks mostly to Last Comic Standing guys or Louie Andersons or Charlie Murphys of the world (people who are funny I guess? but who gives a shit). They bring in one Doug Benson or Graham Elwood or James Adomian for every 5 Jimme Walkers.

I guess what I'm saying is why don't more music venues book comics?

Hannibal Buress played the Lincoln last winter and ruled

Neil Hamburger, Rob Delaney, and Todd Barry have all played Kings in the past year or so

I'm sure I've forgotten others

2 shows, same night

which should I see?

The Pixies (never seen, so so fan, but I bet the show would be good but boring)
Skinny Puppy (seen several times, but not since the mid 90s, and would probably be a lot more entertaining show)

That's great to hear. I grew up not far from here and had to move to DC to see acts like this. Glad it's coming here now. If Raleigh or Durham is so hip now, they should totally get a live How Did This Get Made or Doug Loves Movies at Carolina Theater or maybe Rialto soon. Hardwick is coming to the Carolina in a couple weeks, too.

^my wife won't see a Kim Deal-less Pixies. Not a Skinny Puppy fan, though. I'd choose Pixies regardless because they're still better.

it's funny you brought up the awful Goodnight's calendar

the only comic that came there over the past year that I care about is Marc Maron, and I won a bunch of free passes that night. there hasn't been one comic that has been there since that I've wanted to use a pass to go see (and I won the passes in February)

FUCK a Kim Deal-less Pixies.

With that said, I saw them in '04 on the first reunion tour and it was tremendous, but I'm a crazy Pixies fan. And I haven't seen them any of the other times they've been here, because the prices are dumb and once was enough.

I couldn't give two shits about Skinny Puppy, so if it seems more fun, do that.

We all liked the Pixies better when they were a legend and not an existing rotation of musicians.

This is why you don't want a Replacements reunion tour, people.
