^ Audition

^^ Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes by John Pierson

and please kill me is one of the best books i've ever read, period. it's all compiled from interviews, and there's no narrative other than said interviews. even if you don't like punk, it's a document of american culture.

legs mcneil has a similar book about the porn industry called the other hollywood that's a fun read. my favorite line is, "ginger lynn is a remarkable sexual athlete."

incidentally, for anyone who's interested in the british side of punk, there's an exhaustive book by jon savage called england's dreaming that's excellent, if a little tedious.

Is there any show/movie/other form of entertainment out there that will fill me with as much glee as Arrested Development?

I think I was seriously depressed when I ran out of episodes to watch. At least I moved on to Dexter, but I need more excellent, quirky things in my life.

it's always sunny is fun, but there's not the level of synergy across the seasons like there is in AD

same with 30 rock, though i like it more than it's always sunny

if you've never watched freaks & geeks from start to finish, i'd advise that

but you probably have

i can't think of another show that at some point presents all of its major and minor recurring characters in a light that makes them identifiable to the audience

IN ONLY 18 EPISODES

I really need to get my hands on the latest Sarah Vowell, especially since she's doing a signing here in Reston in March.

I've seen a little bit of Sunny and I'm kind of disappointed. It has its moments, but sometimes I fail to find the comedy in everyone yelling at each other.

Surprisingly I haven't watched Freaks and Geeks yet, though I think I have the dvds squirreled away for potential viewing. I'll put that on top of my pile.

as much as i try, i just can't get into It's Always Sunny

they rely WAY too much on being able to say "shit"

and they always talk over each other, regardless of situation

it's basically 30 minutes of saying "shit" and arguing with each other

yeah

it's fun, but i don't own any

30 rock and AD...i bought every set on release day

and i'm disappointed that shoutfactory is putting out the F&G yearbook again

because Sousapickle and i each have one from the mailing-list-only release

and it's no longer 1337

aqualung is friend to no man

the best movie i've seen recently is young at heart

so i need to do work, and i'm doing what i normally do to put work off, watching cheesy movies, and fever pitch came up and i was thinking 'man you know what's awesome about this movie? it doesn't have the same storyline as every romantic comedy ever: guy meets girl for w/e reason, guy falls in love w/ girl, girl finds out why guy really met her, girl is mad, girl forgives'. what are your thoughts on this statement? how about jimmy fallon taking over for conan?

i'm trying real hard to come up w/ a question here.

[Edited on November 28, 2008 at 3:25 PM. Reason : also katherine heigl looks better w/ dark hair. confirm/deny.]

i'm okay with jimmy fallon taking over for conan...what i don't like is the prospect of conan going to LA

with that said, fever pitch is a much better memoir than a movie

^ i like blonde heigl

so what was the first film to have sexual innuendos in it? What year was the sex embargo lifted on film and what helped it to pass?

Barry Manilow is lame.

Innuendo has been around forever, and nudity on film has existed since the late 1880's...the 1917 version of Cleopatra has Theda Bara in a gold bikini that's far more revealing than Carrie Fisher's.

There's something to be said for the explicit nature of some of the stuff in Mom and Dad from 1945, but it's mostly about STDs and childbirth...exploitation marketing at its finest.

Clare Fader...doubtful.

Heath Ledger...yes.

the old testament is way better than the new testament, particularly the torah

the first time i read a large portion of it was before 12th grade english...i think the summer reading assignment was 39 of the 51 books in the kjv

^ dress, no

oxford shirt, i will refer to you asa slightly dyke-y waitress-ish person

but keep in mind that i'm wearing chucks and a state basketball t-shirt and i haven't shaved in like 20 days and i didn't shower or comb my hair today

Dreamworks Animation is a worthless piece of shit studio that subsists on fart jokes and thoughtless parody.

Pixar has made nine feature films and eight of them are great.

Which Pixar film did you dislike? I'm gonna guess "Cars".
