why would this thread not be derailed but the other one was?

if anything the other one should just be cleaned up - it makes no sense to lose all of the other posts just because you don't agree with the direction the userbase took the thread

I'd rather make an uberpost here with all the historical links in the other thread, than try to go through and weed out all the garbage in the other one.
