Quote : | "there was a 5 year study of the wisconsin and Michigan state patrol cars viewing colisions and near misses of over 500 deer. The study used the forward mounted cameras to see the reactions of the drivers the deer and the results to generate a training protocall for the departments. the study came up with what is the current traing for these and now many other state patrols. the result...DO NOTHING. Yes the study resulted in the the knowledge that the driver is better not reacting to the deer in any way. the one fatal result in the study came when a trooper tried to swerve around a deer and ran off into a ditch rolled and was killed. They also noted that even touching your brakes will trigger the deer to respond often running in front of the car and causing a colision.
After reading this I have adopted this method and I have to agree with it for sure. We have a place in northern wisconsin and when driving up there late at night you will sometimes encounter 50 deer in just a few miles of roadway. often you will drive right by them standing feeding on the shoulder and they act like its no big deal. then some idiot will flash his lights or lay on the horn and the deer will scatter like flies and its any bodies bet where they will be headed." |

both deer I hit I didn't see until they were firmly planted into my vehicle, one in the door, the other in the bumper (seperate incidents, both inside the raleigh city limits) 10/7/2008 8:34:40 AM |
