Trailer
http://www.videodetective.com/movies/NOTORIOUS/trailer/P00319582.htm

It's a movie about Christopher Wallace, aka The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls. Jamal Woolard, who also grew up in Brooklyn, will be playing Biggie. Angela Bassett plays his mother Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke will be Puff Daddy, and Anthony Mackie will be Tupac. Other roles include Anwan Glover as Snoop, Naturi Naughton as Lil' Kim, and Antonique Smith as ex-wife Faith Evans.

Producers on Notorious include Sean "Diddy" Combs, Voletta Wallace, and Biggie's former managers Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts. So hopefully it'll be pretty accurate as to what went on in his life.

I think Biggie said it best himself when he said:

Quote :
"Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis
When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this
50 inch screen, money green leather sofa
Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur
Phone bill about two G's flat
No need to worry, my accountant handles that
And my whole crew is loungin'
Celebratin' every day, no more public housin'
Thinkin' back on my one-room shack
Now my mom pimps a Ac' with minks on her back
And she loves to show me off, of course
Smiles every time my face is up in The Source
We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us
No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us
Birthdays was the worst days
Now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay
Uh, damn right I like the life I live
'Cause I went from negative to positive
And it's all...
Good"

The guy went from nothing to on top of the world doing what he loved, isnt that the American Dream? Everyone wants to have enough money where they dont have to worry about it and can hook up all their friends. Especially if that person is coming from a poor background.

from THAT standpoint, it's certainly admirable.

still quite far from being an american hero, though.

Is anyone going to see this? Seems like it was made for a niche audience.

I'd like to see what all went on in the life of one of the greatest rappers of all time. I feel that P-Diddy will find a way to somehow fuck it up.

American Hero not hardly

American Icon possibly more likely Hip Hop Icon

An American Hero would be George Patton, John Adams, Elliott Ness, GI Joe.

Quote :
"GREENSBORO - A 32-year-old man was shot twice in the abdomen during an argument and an estimated 700 people were evacuated when gunfire broke out at a Greensboro movie theater Friday night.

The sound of a gunshot echoed throughout the lobby of the Grand 18 at Four Seasons Station just after 9 p.m. as moviegoers waited to get into opening night showings of "Notorious" - the life and death story of the rapper Notorious B.I.G.

Greensboro police Lt. James Hinson said the victim, identified early Saturday morning as Clive O’Connor, was rushed to Moses Cone Hospital, where he underwent surgery. His medical condition was not immediately available.

No suspects were in custody late Friday night.

"We can't say whether or not this shooting is in direct relationship to the movie 'Notorious' B.I.G. We just can't say," Hinson said. The theater had three showings of the film scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Rapper and actor Jamal "Gravy" Woolard, who plays B.I.G. in the film, was in the theater at the time of the shooting, police and witnesses said
"

AWESOME. I say that if you are dumb enough to think that this is potentially a good movie, then you deserve to be shot.

At least you know there is a happy ending.

It was the Four Seasons in Greensboro. He was looking to boost his street cred.

Just saw this. I was one of three white people in a theatre of 150 people or so. I thought it was pretty good for what it is. I was happy with the actors they chose mostly. I had been skeptical about the guy who played Biggie but he did a good job. Angela Bassett played Biggie's mom in the exact same way that she played Michael Jackson's mom in that TV movie from like 8 years ago. I couldn't figure out whether she was trying to have a fake Jamaican accent or not. If you ever hear Biggie's mom in an interview, she has a very thick accent. The actresses who played Lil Kim and Faith Evans actually looked better than the real Lil Kim and Faith Evans.

I had read that Lil Kim didn't like the way she was portrayed in the movie. After seeing it, I understand why.

The only thing that was weird was hearing a Biggie voiceover. He is a real person and he's did. That and some of the dialog was just not believable.

[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 11:01 PM. Reason : I'd give it a B. It's worth seeing.]

Now we've got a lot of things, a lot of racism in the world right now
Who's more racist? Black people or white people?
Black people....You know why? Cause we hate black people too
Everything white people don't like about black people
Black people really don't like about black people
There some shit goin on with black people right now
There's like a civil war goin on with black people
And there two sides....
There's black people, and there's niggas
And niggas have got to go
Everytime black people wanna have a good time
Ignorant ass nigga fuck it up
Can't do shit, can't do shit, without some ignorant ass nigga fuckin it up
Can't do nothin
Can't keep a disco open more than 3 weeks
Grand opening, grand closing
Can't go to a movie the first week it comes out
Why cause niggas are shooting at the screen
What kind of ignorant shit is that
Hey this is a good movie, this is so good i gotta bust a cap in here

Hey I love black people, but I hate niggas boy, boy I hate niggas
Boy I wish they'd let me join the Klu Klux Klan
Shit I'd do a drive-by from here to Brooklyn
I'm tired of niggas man
You cant have shit when you around niggas
