2008 is over. I want this to be the longest running 2009 baseball thread.
Troll me here if the Phillies win, so I'll see it.
My wishlist for the offseason:
- Castillo to die. Or at the very least be injured seriously.
- Orlando Hudson at 2B - Daniel Murphy to start in LF with Nick Evans spotting him - Sign Derek Lowe or AJ Burnett - Juan Cruz, Brandon Lyon and K-Rod added to the bullpen. We can keep a healthy Heilman, Feliciano, Smith, Stokes (in AAA on reserve) and I would like to see Kunz and/or Parnell in the majors.
Santana, Pelfrey, Burnett, Maine and Niese is my preferred starting 5. 10/19/2008 8:42:22 PM |

Maybe these cocksuckers will grow a pair of balls after seeing their biggest recent rivals win a title?
Anyway, I hate baseball right now and will continue to do so until the first move of the offseason is made. 10/27/2008 1:13:35 PM |

I wouldn't even want him on the Cardinals bullpen and theirs was worst in the bigs nearly this year. 10/28/2008 1:26:33 AM |

Fuentes or K-Rod? Thoughts? K-Rod will be a more risky contract life/expense.
Mets-Phils will be the most intense rivalry in baseball next year. I would be shocked if we didn't see a couple of brawls... 11/4/2008 12:18:23 PM |

I've shifted gears. Huston Street is the 8th inning guy. Get him Omar. Heilman and Evans. Give up Feliciano if need be... He's there for the taking.
Also sign Chad Cordero on a 1 year deal for $2M or so to prove he is healthy and then he can go close elsewhere next year. 12/9/2008 7:39:51 PM |

8:46 p.m. — Mets close to landing Putz
The Mets are close to landing a setup man for new closer Francisco Rodriguez — and that setup man is another closer from the American League West.
J.J. Putz appears headed to the Mets in a three-team trade with the Mariners and Indians.
Mets right-hander Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez and first-base prospect Mike Carp are in the deal, as is Indians outfielder Franklin Gutierrez.
It is not yet clear which players are headed where.
- from Ken Rosenthal's blog

That'd be awesome. Putz would be a great setup man and good insurance if something, God forbid, should happen to K-Rod. Plus I won't have to see the crappy posture of Aaron Heilman again. 12/10/2008 9:01:32 PM |

The Mets are definitely trying to address their needs. I wonder what will happen between K-Rod and Wagner if/when he comes back in 2010? Hopefully Putz will get hurt again next year and K-Rod will continue to decline (his stats were not that impressive other than the saves total in 08). 12/11/2008 8:46:19 AM |

Not sure I like this...I prefer a pitchers park over a bandbox like in Philly
but I hope it doesn't play like Petco where homeruns are rarities
Quote : | "Citi Field, the new ballpark for the New York Mets, is poised to become MLB's new Grand Canyon. City Field is a vast, cool weather, sea-level stadium, and those factors will have a hugely negative impact on home runs.
*snip*
Johan Santana and the rest of the Mets pitching staff will like the new park, but the Mets' front office should sign their power hitters now, before the word gets out. In spring 2009, baseball fans are going to get a live demonstration of what happens when a team sets out to design a pitcher's park, and overdo" |

^ damn that is going to be a tough place to hit. When you factor in all of the offensive declines across baseball since the steroid era ended plus a huge park, we are going to be seeing a lot of 2-1, 3-2 games in the new stadium. 1/8/2009 11:29:20 AM |

How sick a backend of the bullpen would Wagner, Putz and K-Rod be?

I do too. He walks a hell of a lot of batters (most walks in 2008 of any MLB pitcher) but he always keeps the game close enough to win. Mets.com says he had more no decisions last year (17) than any pitcher in Mets history. With a real bullpen, he has a chance to be a 20 game winner. 2/2/2009 7:59:00 PM |

LF is Doug Murphy, he's a star in the making. He only had 50 games and 130 at-bats last year, but he hit .313 and he averaged 1.5 bases-per-hit (for comparison, David Wright was 1.7 and Jose Reyes was 1.6).
I'm worried about 2B but having a guaranteed 6 solid players in the lineup every night (Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Murphy, Church) makes me pretty happy, most teams don't have that. If Delgado continues where he left off last season then 2B is the only position to have any worries about. 2/2/2009 11:47:03 PM |

i really enjoyed watching murphy last year
however, i am still not convinced that he is more than a utility guy. yeah he was swinging a hot stick at the end of the year, but he is a below avg defender and avg baserunner.
i am hoping he does well because he was fun to watch 2/3/2009 4:59:31 PM |

Did anyone just see FMart's SHOT in the Caribbean WS? Only 2 RBIs in the 2-1 win... kid is going to be special.
Actually we have a few really good prospects coming along. FMart, 16 year old Wilmer Flores (his numbers in Rookie ball were siiiccckkk for a 16 year old) and I really like Brad Holt from UNC-W. He'll start at AA next year and he was unhittable in Brooklyn... 2/4/2009 12:19:54 AM |

Yeah, Reese Havens. He had elbow ligament soreness last year so he didn't play that much. He was drafted as a SS, but there were talks about moving him to 2B (that probably isn't realistic) or even C.
Ike Davis was our first overall pick, and he was fucking terrible in his half season in A ball... 2/4/2009 12:36:20 AM |
