i carry around far too much crap, but most if it is necessary (including a wallet that hurts to sit on if it's in my back pocket, since it's full of access cards and such...i wish it were money )

so i wear cargo shorts when it's 60+°F...but cargo pants are pretty dorky/fashionably unacceptable, right?

although...if i have to ask, i'm probably already fashionably unacceptable

depends on what you are wearing them to. if you are cooking out in the back yard...cool. if you are trying to impress ladies at a nice bar or restaurant...not cool.

I still rock the cargo shorts but not the long pants.

oh, i'm just wearing them to work...where my dress code has always been shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops

i still meet with people who wear suits and make 5x my salary, but i'm a code monkey, so they don't seem to care (also, i'm fairly apathetic about the job as a whole)

i really only wear nice, darker jeans out if i'm going to be that casual in the fall/winter

like i said, i carry around a lot of access cards and keys...the access cards make my wallet really thick and horribly uncomfortable to sit on...the keys are fairly large and poke me in my front pocket...with cargo shorts, i put all this stuff, including my cell phone, into the side pockets and it's extremely comfortable

i had a conversation with a certain friend of mine recently that went something like this

him - i hate carrying all this stupid shit (random useless items)

me - (noticing he was rocking his typical cargo shorts) why dont you put it in one of your 40 sweet pockets?

him - i mean, like, you know i just think that your shorts are like worse looking on a guy then cargo shorts (i was wearing normal people shorts, i think some vineyard vines or polo shorts with appropriate pocketage)

me - uhhh see ya later man

i rock out cargo shorts all of the time. cargo pants are for hiking and camping. but if you really need them for work go for it. you could always get one of those janitor things for your keys so you clip them to your pants and get one of those zippy line things for your access cards thus reducing the size of you wallet.

Since when did cargo pants become not ok?
I rock out some cargo pants like all the time.
Then again, I never leave the house.
Doh.

^^ i don't know, i guess i always thought there was a line between cargo shorts (which i wear almost exclusively) and cargo pants (of which i have none...the only khaki pants i have are dress/casual slacks and some cords)

*shrug*

yeah, cargo pants are fucking horrible. You look like a tool. Might as well wear a trench coat with jeans or shorts so your tool wardrobe can be complete

Fashionably acceptable were? I mean, in college people were pajama pants to class, so I don't think cargo pants are going to be a problem. Now, if you are out of college, and don't work construction or you aren't out camping or something, I think cargo pants are exactly up there in fashion trends.

realize that i have to carry all this crap with me...and i can be forgetful, so i don't really want to have to try to remember to bring the right card or key, because i will forget as often as not

they aren't the trendiest or best looking fashion statement, but i wouldn't say they're fashionably unacceptable by any means - i mean, those stores like A&F and AE still sell them, right?

i have to say i consider a&f and AE pretty much fashionably unacceptable at this point, i had my fair share of the stuff in high school but that ended around senior year and i havent looked back

i don't think i've ever shopped in either one for myself, but i know plenty of people who do. i also don't think me not shopping there makes it fashionably unacceptable, haha.

haha yeah, that wasnt really the implication i was going for.

ill rephrase, it's not anything i would ever wear, but thats a personal preference

i also think most guys wearing anything from abercrombie, american eagle or hollister look like complete douchebags, but thats also a personal opinion

as far as general public goes, im sure cargo pants are good to go

REI ftw

I admit that i wear the dickies extra pocket work pants vrs the ones my company will buy for me, and use belt pouches. WAY too much shit to carry around in my pockets most days.

I don't mind them for casual days/classes/etc and I have a lot of guy friends that wear them, so I say go for it. The khaki ones though...not the camo ones, those scream creepy psycho killer.

how fashionably acceptable is getting clothing advice from a messageboard filled with people who probably wear pocket protectors so as not to get ballpoint pen ink on their short sleeve button up shirts?

well damn, i never knew my cargo pants were such a bad fuckin thing...but i guess i have a good excuse to wear them. my work is 99% outdoors, and i haul a lot of shit around. i also have to carry a bigass keychain because i have different offices and gates to get through, especially in hunting season. not comfortable to put in my front pockets. i do rock the janitor retractable keychain at times, otherwise a caribeener (sp?). when i smoked, having a pack of cigarettes was a pain in the ass without cargo pockets, but fortunately i quit a little less than a year ago.

all that said...i never considered them as pants to wear when i go out with people, but i never considered them so hideous.

now almost all my shorts are cargo shorts, so i know i have a problem there.

Even cargo shorts are pretty much unacceptable these days...if they are long kind that hang past your knees. So yeah...cargo pants are pretty much a no-no these days.

But fuck it...wear what you want.
