i have an undersink inline water filter for my bathroomit came with these push-in compression fittings for the 3/8ths inlets on the filter and for the connector to the sinkthe only connection i have left is to the stop valve coming out of the wallit has a 3/8ths outlet... they included a compression fitting (it was a thing that went in the tube along with a plastic ferrule and a 3/8ths nut... it kept leaking for some reason (no, i didn't overtighten it).what would you guys recommend that i get to make this connection? do they sell those push-to-connect connectors that fit onto the stop valve?halp plz

I'm really not sure, evandon't you rent your house? (I can't imagine that you've bought one this early in your life)if you do rent, then it's not your problem. Call your landlord and tell him to call a plumber
10/20/2008 11:50:08 PM
i'd do that, but i'm not sure they're going to be too eager to help me out in putting a water filter in
10/20/2008 11:50:51 PM
CALL JOE!!!
10/20/2008 11:51:51 PM
THAT way, you get to stare at joe-the-plumber's ass crack, as he fixes your plumbing, and then you get to have him test your plumbing
10/20/2008 11:52:26 PM
i should have made this in the lounge
10/20/2008 11:52:32 PM
why do you want a filter for your bathroom sink?
10/20/2008 11:52:39 PM
i, too, have never had a desire to filter my bathroom sink water
10/20/2008 11:53:36 PM
oh whoops, I completely glossed over that partmy bad. I'm no help to you.maybe you can try finding a rubberized fitting for the valve, soak it in water over night, and then put it on?

get a kit with a brass (or whatever metal they have) ferruleput ferrule on tubeuse a lighter to melt very tip of tube, wedge something in to expand the end (note most plastic tubes naturally curl back, so no wedging needed), while the tube is still melted, push the metal ferrule to the end of the tube so it "fuses" on.Tightly connect the nut to the outlet. 10/20/2008 11:57:52 PM
^ this is basic stuff, you don't need a "real" plumber to take care of thisJoe the Plumber could handle this
10/20/2008 11:58:22 PM

lawlit's mainly for brushing my teefsthe filter was only like $30 at lowes, i figured "why not?"
10/21/2008 12:03:15 AM
my method will workI think i invented it tooi've never heard of anyone using the melted-tube trick I described.
10/21/2008 12:03:55 AM
it sounds like it would work, i'll try it tomorrow... what do you recommend i wedge in the tube?i think the problem with the first one was the plastic ferrule]
10/21/2008 12:08:05 AM
I edited, but you shouldn't have to actually wedge anything in the tube, IME, the tube will naturall curl back. It also takes VERY little heat to cause this, once the flame is going, it shouldn't take more than a second or 2 (assuming line is vacated of water) to cause it to curl back enough.Obviously, you're using a plastic tube, so if you mess up, just cut it and try again. You could also probably wrap some teflon tape around the plastic ferrule and make it work, but it's not as "nice" of a solution.[Edited on October 21, 2008 at 12:10 AM. just use duct tape, its a fix all for everything...
10/21/2008 5:58:04 AM
wrap teflon tape on the threads. faster/easier.
10/21/2008 10:35:22 AM
yeah, you shouldn't attempt any job under a sink without teflon tape

im not a fucking plumber!BigBlueRam is though...
10/21/2008 10:59:50 AM
i was under the impression that it was actually a bad idea to use teflon tape on compression fittings because the nut isn't what seals, it's the ferrule
10/21/2008 11:45:08 AM
^yeah, you're probably right. however, i didn't read anything after "water filter for my bathroom." at that point, i thought, "yep, another lame evan thread" and moved on.[Edited on October 21, 2008 at 11:47 AM. Reason : after questioning the reason for a water filter in a bathroom, of course ]
10/21/2008 11:46:45 AM
how is that lame? who WOULDN'T want a water filter in their bathroom?
10/21/2008 11:49:13 AM
