i do a lot of dumb things, but this is one of the dumbest. i don't know what my problem is but i have issues. i'm constantly losing things....keys, cell phone, debit card, license, etc. i always "lose" my keys and finally find them in my deadbolt (or the neighbor finds them there and tells me). i can drop something out of my hand (like a cell phone for instance) and keep walking and not even realize what i've done. i once put my cell phone on the roof of my car and drove from charleston, sc to raleigh, nc thinking i had lost my phone only to open my sunroof and have it fall in.and speaking of cars and leaving things on them....today i was leaving school with a lot of stuff in my hands including my laptop (in a neoprene sleeve LUCKILY). i guess i set it on my trunk to try to find my car keys in my backpack WHICH by they way, when i found them my key chain broke and all my keys and little vic card things fell all over the ground. so anyways long story short, i left the computer on the car. drove all the way home. couldn't find it. retraced my steps and found it in the middle of the road. it works (so it seems). it hadn't been run over (yet) and only the outside is damaged. and it is covered by my insurance.i think i have a problem. is this what being "spacey" is?? is it something with common sense? i think i might just be stupid. /blog

one of my best friends is like this, he is always losing his shit or leaving it everywhere. it seems like every time he rides in my car he leaves something of his in it and he can't even keep track of important stuff like his license, keys, money, etc. maybe you two would be good togetheror maybe i should go out of my way to make sure you never meet, for the welfare of both parties$1

a) no blonde for me that would look retardedb) i don't want kids (but that is why they make those leash things anyway)smart people are often messy and lack common sense. i'll just chalk it up to my creative genius ^ haha yea the world would probably end if we met[Edited on October 28, 2008 at 4:02 PM. Lots of people do this sort of thing. I find it helps to concentrate on what you're doing AT THAT VERY MOMENT. In fact, working in dangerous environments or with heavy machinery(cars included), it's an absolute necessity. Save your listmaking, planning, doublechecking and daydreaming for times when you are paused. Of course, having testicles also helps.

dumb people are also often messy and lack common sensei wouldn't use that argument$1

I'm usually surprisingly good about not forgetting stuff like this. It helps to stop for a second and just double check. If you ave a nagging feeling that you're forgetting something, you probably are.
10/28/2008 4:09:28 PM
Always make sure whenever you get in your car that there is nothing on top of it.
10/28/2008 4:09:31 PM
^^ haha my problem is i don't get those nagging feelings! if i did it would help me out A LOT. because i'd turn around sooner or fix the problem sooner. i only get nagging feelings on exams and stuff. not in real life. in real life i suck. but i have kept a new plant alive for 3 days AND i've kept my cat alive for 2 years. i don't forget to feed her or anything.

I do dumb shit like this all the timeOne time this summer I bought like 120 bucks worth of groceries and pushed the cart right into the cart return place in the parking lot without unloading the groceries into my car first.I got home wondering where the hell my stuff was until I retraced my steps and drove back to Fresh Market and found the cart still there, with all my stuff in it minus the beer, which someone had jacked.

^ i don't know how i feel about it...it's the matrix model, and when i was in undergrad, i'd fill the bookbag up completely with books in addition to my laptop...over time, in noticed that the screen was getting these permanent impressions from the keys (because of being overloaded and pressed against, i guess)...i tried a satchel/messenger bag style, and that just flat-out suckedi eventually went back to the matrix pack, but cut some stiff plastic inserts out of a sterilite container to put on either side of the laptop compartment...since then, i've not had any problems (the pack itself has held up great)targus actually sent me TWO new packs after i ran over the first one (it had/has a lifetime guarantee and i sent it back for something like a broken zipper and they sent me two...i sold one for $40 and kept the other as the replacement)

hahaha i don't think i have autism. and to clarify the cell phone thing (it only happened once...besides the roof of the car thing) i was walking and talking to someone and had the phone in my hand and went to put it in my purse (which i don't always zip, yea...probably how things get lost) and i think i just tried to slip it in but instead it fell on the ground and i didn't notice. so it isn't THAT bad. i mean it is still worse than a lot of people i know but i have never locked myself out of anywhere. is something like this a symptom of add or adhd? because my brother used to forget things and lose things (like he'd leave his backpack at school...god knows how/why) and so he got to get tested and he has adhd. but mine is like never really related to school so i just slip through the cracks. sigh.(i'm half way joking. but i mean honestly i am messy and unorganized. i need like a professional life organizer)oh and ps i get what you're saying i've met a person before that is like a genius but has trouble functioning with day to day life. and he was also autistic. i just don't think my forgetfulness is that bad. who knows. maybe i should ask the doctor the next time i go and see if i can join the ranks of our overmedicated society [Edited on October 28, 2008 at 7:59 PM. <serious>You lack what is referred to as "situational awareness" -- basically, you're a space cadet. You don't pay attention to anything that you're doing when you're doing it, and you don't pay attention to the world around you -- you live in your own little world. You also seem to be quite forgetful on top of lacking situational awareness. Unfortunately, in many situations, this can be dangerous if not deadly. I used to have this issue of constantly losing things, until I started scuba diving. The way my team and I dive, every piece of equipment has it's own specific spot on each person. We all use essentially the same gear, set up the same way, with everything in the same location. This standardized approach to diving helps with team cohesion in possible emergency situations, and makes life easy when everyone uses the same types of gear. I decided this was a pretty neat idea and carried it over to normal life...Example: My cell phone, keys, wallet, contact lens container, and lip balm always go in exactly the same pocket in my shorts. Heck, I bought 4-5 pairs of the same design of shorts (different colors, obviously) to help facilitate this, so I can always use the same pockets day to day. I used to always lose my sunglasses, except that now they're either in a pocket, on my face, or in the sunglasses holder in the car. When I'm wearing jeans the pockets change (no cargo pockets on jeans...) but the idea is the same -- stuff always goes in the same pocket, every time. My laptop is always either being used, or in my bookbag. My bookbag always goes in the same place in my car when I get out of class (these last two things would have prevented the issues you posted about). etc etc etc. When I leave the house, I always ask myself (and tap each pocket to make sure the item is there) -- "Cell phone? Wallet? Keys?" etc. When I get into and out of the car, leave class, or go anywhere -- same thing. Sounds stupid but it works.Standardization is key. No one can help you change but yourself, and you can only change if you truly want to.</serious>[Edited on October 28, 2008 at 8:22 PM. Reason : ]
