Dunno if anyone on here is interested in this, but I have seen quite a few people buy chinchillas on here in the past. I'm a hobby breeder of exotic pets which include chinchillas, sugar gliders and hedgehogs. I have quite a few chinchillas available right now, more on the way. My sugar gliders are a bit too young to breed atm but it won't be long, and I'm about to purchase two 100% Leu Hets so that I can try to get a Leucistic, which should make a lot of people happy around here considering how hard they are to find. My female hedgehog is expecting also, so if you're interested let me know. E-mail me if you have any questions. You can check out my website at http://www.freewebs.com/threewingedfury which I just put together quickly and doesn't include pictures of all my animals, but lists the majority. I live in Roxboro, but I can deliver them to Raleigh if you pay for the gas. 10/29/2008 3:13:13 PM |

why anyone would want a sugar glider beats the hell out of me. they pee everywhere and you have to constantly clean their cages
they bite, bark and can live for like 10-15 years. incredibly difficult to take care of 10/30/2008 10:19:32 AM |
tdwhitlo All American 1347 Posts user info edit post |
well I've had my chins get wet before, I just have to make sure that I get them dry very quickly - I have one that likes to sit directly under the water bottle and let it drip on her head so theres a big ol spot on there - water can cause bacteria under their fur and the hair can get matted - I've spoken to a few breeders who actually bathe their chins in water, but I'm not taking the chance - it probably takes 2 hrs to dry them off, I'd rather them just play in the dust bath, its so much more fun
on the case of sugar gliders - my chins and hedgehogs poo on me when I pick them up, so why not let the gliders pee and poo on me? I guess it just depends on how dedicated you are to an animal - I enjoy my animals, and I don't mind dealing with it - I keep chlorox wet wipes handy for those occasions - the biting is ONLY if you are not bonded to your gliders - my first 2 gliders I got do not bite at all, they are bonded to me - on the other hand, this new glider I got a few weeks ago hates me and I havent been able to get her to stay in a pouch because shes the devil (we call her Satan), but it takes time and commitment - the barking is ADORABLE, dogs bark, are you going to get rid of them because of it?? and as for the age, chins live of 20 years, so whats so bad with 10-15 for gliders?
oh and gliders arent difficult to take care of - if you're going to be away for a while - get a travel size cage for them with a bunch of fleece pouches and a wodent wheel and they're perfectly fine - my cage is filled with tons of fleece which they absolutely LOVE - I get people to make me fancy cage pouches and bonding pouches for them and they're spoiled - feeding them can be the biggest problem because you have to give them such a variety of food, but i wouldnt want to eat the same meal every day, so i sympathize with them

You shoulda used my header. Nobody wants a hedgehog, but who wouldn't want Sonic? 11/1/2008 1:28:27 PM |
tdwhitlo All American 1347 Posts user info edit post |
Chins depend on colors - I have a female grey for $75 right now, male hetero beige for $100 and female hetero beige for $125. The beiges have black eyes, so they don't look like the usual ones with red eyes. I'm going to pick up a male breeder this week, so I'd like to sell the babies ASAP. The babies decided to eat through their cage and now I don't have an extra one to put my male in. I'll sell the two females (grey and beige, unrelated) together for $175.
As for the header, Sonic was very cute, just didn't fit what I wanted. I ended up making the header because no one got back in touch with me. Kinda looks like crap, but oh well, I tried.

so I decided that it would be best for my breeding pair of gliders if I sold my other female glider - shes just not adjusting well in my settings after a month and shes far too young to breed and I really think shes telling me that she wants to be by herself, which is odd for a glider but I don't want her to be unhappy, so she is now available, her name is Elektra
I still have the beige male chin, and I also decided to try to part with a breeding pair of mine that are standard greys so that I can focus on other colors

I caught her nibbling on a hay cube earlier today - 2 days old and she thinks shes all grown up

Well, I think my calculations were wrong. I put my pair together on Oct. 7th and the gestation period for hedgehogs is 35 days, so if she was pregnant then she would have had them by now. Hedgehogs are really hard to tell if they are pregnant. My hedgie was showing nipples, acting differently, the whole 9 yards. Took her to the vet, they said theres no sign of babies just yet. So, I'm gonna try to breed them again. Most breeders have 4 females to 1 male hedgie to guarantee some sort of breeding, but I just don't have the room for a large cage as I have like 15 already, haha. On top of that, my male hedgie is a little sensitive, he acts like hes too good for her, so I'm probably gonna have to purchase more females just to get some hoglets outta him. Hes just so beautiful, I can't wait to see what his babies look like because hes an algerian dark cinnicot which is semi-rare.

So, no one interested in the hetero beige male and the standard pair? I'm thinking about keeping my standard male and selling just the standard female, but I don't think I'll do this unless I find someone who already has a chin and wants to put her with them. The male has such large size and beautiful fur. Hes a dark standard, and hes just beautiful and sweet, so I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. My problem is, I'm running out of room. I went to the SC chin show yesterday and purchased a mosaic and a dark ebony to pair up (from a breeder in AL) and whenever they get used to each other, I'm gonna put my pink and white in with them so I'll have a wide variety of whites, ebonies, pink and whites, beiges, and tans from them. So now that I have an extra pair, I'm hoping that I can at least sell the beige male kit so I'll have enough room for everyone without having to purchase another cage after the two are out of quarantine. 11/23/2008 1:29:17 PM |

Holiday sale - 3 standard greys adults are $50 each, hetero beige kit $80, hetero beige adult - $75 (kit has black eyes, adult has red eyes)
Also, if you purchase two greys, I'll thrown in a cage (not the best cage, but I'm trying to make room as I just purchased brand new cages and want to put them in the room as soon as I have enough room)
In 4 weeks I'll have a black velvet adult available for $100 and a standard grey kit (8 weeks) for $100
If anyone is interested, I'll be in Durham tomorrow morning and maybe that afternoon around Durham Regional Hospital - if someone wanted to meet me there it would be fine or give me like $5 in gas I'll deliver to Raleigh

I don't understand the appeal of these types of pets.
So what? 12/3/2008 11:20:43 PM |
tdwhitlo All American 1347 Posts user info edit post |
^ well I personally don't understand the appeal of snakes, but thats my opinion - not everyone wants a dog or cat either...
I love my chinnies - I love their fur, I love their personalities, I love their squeaks, their attitude, I can't really think of anything negative about them
My suggies, I love watching them eat fresh fruits and mealies - they're so sweet - you should see them do backflips in the cage - they're great to carry around with you on trips in their pouch - I take mine to Wal-Mart sometimes when I'm shopping and no one even notices them unless they start crabbing, which is rare
Hedgies are very suttle animals - it doesn't take much to please them - my male hedgie absolutely loves his wheel and will run on it all night, my female likes hiding under fleece and bedding - I like the fact that they can protect themselves from danger, I love their company when they cuddle up with me (and no it doesn't hurt, they lay their quills down)
Small pets aren't for everyone - I've loved my exotic animals and ever since I got my first one - I thought about changing my major to possibly become an Exotic Animal vet but I figured I would go ahead and finish up my CSC degree for backup and then apply to the vet school afterwards and go from there. I haven't found anything that I enjoy as much as I do my pets. My husband and I don't want children, so our pets are our children. Our ferrets sleep with us in our bed. When the ferrets are up, the chinnies bounce around the room. The suggies go on trips with us. They're much more convenient than cats and dogs, which we have also, but I just have a special place in my heart for my exotics.
and pimp.. just msg me if you have any questions, hope to hear from you soon!

This is disgusting. You have these little fuckers all over your house? I bet it smells like shit. 12/4/2008 10:50:18 AM |
tdwhitlo All American 1347 Posts user info edit post |
and how exactly is that?
if you knew anything about chinchillas at all, you'd know THEY DON'T STINK, they take dust baths and pretty much smell like dust - they have tiny hard formed poo with no smell and it vacuums up in a heartbeat - water and vinegar gets rid of the urine on the cage
my hedghogs and ferrets are litter box trained and the Yesterdays News litter keeps the odor down - plus the ferrets have supplement in the water so their poo won't smell as bad (Bi-Odor), so its like having a cat that uses a litter box
the suggies don't have enough poo to fill a 20 oz bottle cap a day, so how exactly is this a problem? the only problem with their smell is their urine, and as long as you keep their cage clean and clean them with dry shampoo, theres no problem
I have hardwood floors, so I keep a vacuum around and vacuum at least 4-5 times a day and mop the floors at night - I clean the walls with chlorox weekly
its just like kids, if their parents didn't wipe their ass then they'd smell pretty bad, but with proper cleaning techniques, they're perfectly fine 12/4/2008 6:03:13 PM |

you have to with as many pets as I have - its just easier that way so the poo doesn't pile up, sometimes maybe 3 times depending on my schedule, but usually one time in the morning, mid-day, afternoon, night, right before bed 12/4/2008 6:23:31 PM |

I don't mind at all! If it promotes the well-being of the pet, sure! Gliders LOVE pouches and practically need one for bonding and I've spent $200+ in fleece toys for my glider cage.
My grandmother bought me a sewing machine for Christmas so I can start making hedgie pogs, glider pouches and cage liners for the babies - it'll be so much cheaper on me in the long run, but I have to figure out how to sew first, haha.

The two standard adult males that I thought I had sold together (had already been paid for), the lady backed out of getting because I couldn't pair them up since they wouldn't stop fighting and she found a pair for free. So, they're back up for sale, just not together.
