What percentages will we be looking at?

I'm as cynical as they come. Living near NCCU, I see regular massive crowds of angry Black Democrats, and I smile every time knowing that the vast majority of them will not vote.

I predicted to my wife a few weeks ago that fewer NCCU students will vote in this election than marched in the NAACP rally in Raleigh a while ago. They march. They yell. They wear T-Shirts and campaign door-to-door. But they don't vote.

On ABCNews, they just showed black turnout in VA. 20% of blacks voted in VA in 2004. So far, it looks like the turnout is 21% in 2008.

Will this trend bear out in other states? What causes this? White turnout in VA was over 60% in '04 and '08 in VA - why are African-Americans so much less likely to vote, even now?

^^^^I'm not big on idiots voting. The NCCU crowd certainly counts in that group, along with ignorant Republicans with the 'dey tuk are jawbs!1!@' and 'Git dem terrsts' mantras. The more any of those folks stay home the better off we are.

95% of them, yes.

If it's a consolation - there is a similarly high percentage of white voters who are idiots. I'm an equal-opportunity hater.

these guys make me want to [facepalm] with how they're ridiculously poorly they're articulating things, but come on, Boone...nobody is saying that being black implies that you're an idiot, and nobody is saying that he doesn't want black people to vote because they're black (he doesn't want them to vote because they statistically, as a group, don't vote for the candidates he supports).

^^^^^ what the fuck, dude? are you totally dense, hypersensitive, prone to jump to conclusions, or a combination of the above?

i mean, yeah, these clowns are conveying their point in about the most piss poor, ineffective, clumsy way that I can imagine, but you win no points for not being sharp or levelheaded enough to piece together the intent (either that, or you assume racism in a guilty until prove innocent manner).

they came out of the woodwork because it is a black candidate, no one can argue that

its a shame that people who wouldn't have otherwise voted are doing so exclusively because of race, that's not ignorant, that's a fucking fact

Context matters. That's the point. Voting for race has a different meaning depending on the circumstances.

so because it's two white males running for office, it gives an excuse for an entire race not to get out and vote?

why would a black person voting for a black candidate be any different than somebody voting for a candidate because they were born in the same state? VP Candidates used to be picked based almost entirely on this latter basis.

it's not that

it's that black people voted in record numbers only because a black candidate was running whereas they would have not voted if it was two white dudes as usual

its not that its that arkansans voted in record numbers only because an arkansan candidate was running whereas they would not have not voted if it was two mid-atlantic dudes as usual.

It is a fact that African-American voters registered in record numbers for this election, and at a much higher percentage than any other race. That's all I'm saying.

So far the African-American turn-out is like 2% higher than 2004.

So there goes your theory.

Obama didn't win because of racism. Face it, already.

i dont know who was black and who wasn't

all i know is that EVERY FUCKING INTERVIEW with an Obama supporter was some old ass black woman who has never voted but had some kind of "revelation" and decided to cast a vote this time

i guess i got tired of hearing the same shit

if they had a bunch of intelligent people of all races talking about issues instead of how proud they were that were were "making history" i think i could have respected that

Interesting...We have voted years, we voted big here. Sometimes you need something you can believe in to step up. Until you walked in another man shoes...but anyways...please continue discussion. There are so many angles, thoughts, theories, etc that can come from this. I got my belief.
