having a black president doesn't fix all of the problems with the black community. it doesn't make up for past years of oppression.

CNN has a black man transmitted by hologram right now.

Is this an historic first for black people?

dude. I don't believe that whites are the source of all of my problems and I don't know any blacks that do. I've lead a very privledged life and I'm thankful for all that I have. I don't blame anyone, white or black for my problems. I hold myself accountable for the mistakes that I make.

let's list all of the problems in the black community and see how many can be legitimately back to personal accountability

Despite what you believe Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson tell us, black people don't believe all of their problems stem from whites.

Go fuck yourselves.

i think there are a lot of things that will come up

like if obama = jimmy carter he may set black candidates back instead of propel potential candidates into the forefront

or it could cause an extreme white backlash

or it could create a very bad 4 years because he turns out to be all talk

or we get tested early by another country and he proves not to be jfk

Whole lotta stupid in this thread.

Hopefully blacks will look up to Obama as a role model and realize that being a nerdy black guy isn't so bad.

yeah, it's not like black people are going to instantly:

improve the education and literacy rate

decrease criminal activity

act white

BUT it is a big opportunity for the right black people to really rise to the top - i hope that blacks can see what has been given to them and don't fuck this one up - if they fuck it up, it might not ever be offered again. And don't misunderstand, white people are mostly responsible for obama getting elected.

the all state president baby

but seriously

they better not fuck up an opportunity like this, or there will be a stigma on black presidents. Stereotypes get placed all the time on people who have weird pasts - see Mitt Romney as a Morman, etc.

A good presidency could usher in a new era for impoverished blacks, while a bad one could set them back 20 years...

oh and

Quote :
""Our communities had told us that the only way we could make it out is if we entertain," said Cortez Tarver in Atlanta, near the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s home. Fewer African-American kids aspired to jobs like doctor and lawyer, but "now they can say they want to be president," he said"

hopefully they can make it past rap and sports - even they admitted it

Being around alot of different minorities, blacks do tend to be the most whiny ones. I do think they have legitimate reasons to whine though.

As far as stereotypes go (so no blanket statement), asians are stereotypes as being good at math, Hispanics have it easy because they are seen as hard working manual laborers, and Indians are known for producing great doctors/engineers, and so on and so forth. African Americans are known mainly for their athleticism and groovey rhythm. Which, modern society looks down upon as "less valuable". So, I do agree that it does create some inequality issues when it comes to high skilled jobs.

The president of the US is nothing more but a figurehead/puppet at this point.

I mean look at George W. Bush. I wouldn't trust that guy to make 1000 on the SAT for god's sake.

Whoever pulled the strings to get Obama elected will pull the same strings for the next 4-8 years.

Grow up and realize that money is power. A fucking black guy with no political stance, no money, and no experience just became the president. And we are coming off 8 years where a guy who was more likely to eat maple brown sugar oatmeal for breakfast than digest the national security report "ran" the country.

If anything this election was to appease black people, not to empower them. The scary thing is when our economic system comes crashing down "black people" won't necessairly be black anymore. White people are going to burn too.

Are you implying some sort of far-reaching Illuminati-type conspiracy, or simply run-of-the-mill political ploys and corruption?

Also, reading over this whole thread.... some of you people are pretty damn racist.

the constant foaming at the mouth about the "first black president" in the media isn't going to help any racial barriers. race shouldn't be a big deal, but daily it's brought to the forefront, not unusually by those crying for equality, etc. the best thing that could be done is to just let it go. everybody knows a half-black guy won the presidency; the reminders aren't necessary.

one of my minor reasons for supportin Obama. Al Sharpton should be heading to the unemployment office any day now.
