"Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) is 78 years old. When Carl was a child, he met and eventually married a girl named Ellie who grew up in a small midwestern town. Ellie always dreamed of exploring the mountains but died before she got a chance. Now, when developers threaten to move him into an assisted living home, Carl decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie. To accomplish this, he befriends a chubby eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. The two opposites match up for thrilling adventures as they encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains, and all the terrifying creatures that wait in the jungle."

You can find the first trailer now on youtube, disney, etc.

with every pixar movie i cant see where they're going with the idea and it turns out great. Toys, bugs, talking cars, a rat that wants to be a chef and a robot on an empty planet all sound like stupid main characters too. I'm not doubting them anymore until they actually make a movie that sucks.

^^I'm pretty sure Bolt wasn't made by Pixar, but by Disney and whatever internal resources they have.

This sounds pretty cool. It's rare to see a movie about old people, much less an animated one. Given Pixar's history, I think it'll be a winner.

Quote :
"Is there any possible chance that this won't be next year's best movie? No! Like Wall-E and Ratatouille before it, Up stars another classic, unlikely Pixarian protagonist — an old, grumpy coot voiced by Ed Asner. In the film, Carl Frederickson makes good on his deceased wife's dream to explore the jungle, which he accomplishes, naturally, by tying a few thousand balloons to his house and flying away. The visuals are so gorgeous it makes you wonder which idea came first: the one for the plot or the one for that amazing shot of the balloons passing by the little girl's window. Anyway, this doesn't come out until May 29, which means we should probably wait until at least March to kick-start our Best Picture campaign."

the animation for those balloons is amazing, even on a small comp screen.

Sounds to me like the old fart went crazy and started hallucinating once they put him in the home.

Yeah you're right! I even watched the trailer the other day and just assumed it was Pixar since Disney had in again.

However Pixar has done the whole superhero thing with The Incredibles. I need to get my animated movies straight!

^^ with that said, after pixar reverse tookover disney, they came in, stopped production on bolt, and completely reworked it. It was apparently a lot shittier than what it turned out to be.

From what I heard, it sounds like a tear-jerker. This post has a long description of the opening scene. Just from the description, I found it touching.

Outstanding.

In fact, it's basically required if you want to have a fulfilling childhood and lead a normal adult life.
Watch it ASAP or you will someday become a serial killer.

Brave Little Toaster is damn near impossible to find on DVD.

I finally found one for Raine34 and I will forever hold that over her head.

I was always under the impression that they made movies 3D as a gimmick to get people to see sub-par movies. Seems to match up with my first impression of this one.

I love Pixar films, I have not heard about this one, will have to watch the trailer.

That said if Pixar remade the brave little toaster I would be there first in line on opening day...best movie ever. I am actually home sick from work with strep throat (seriously?!) and might have to watch the dvd!

The scene in the advertisements where the guy is shooing away the bird, and the bird copies him, makes me LOL every time.

I'm sure this is probably an older gag, but I wonder if the idea for the talking dog collar thing came from a Dexter's Lab episiode? Not that I particularly care since it's still funny, but I am curious.

Tells you where it's playing in 3d. Anyone in Charlotte going tonight? I'm trying to find a theatre playing it in 3d at midnight. Concord Mills has it at midnight, but it's not in 3d.

Anyone?

I wonder when they will start making crappy movies.

Before Wall-E, I hadn't seen a pixar movie in a while and had thought maybe others had caught up. Turns out that Pixar is still in a class of quality far above every other animation house. Story/art/style -- everything
