nah. i'd say that if you go to montana on vacay and get a ticket, fuck it.
but if you live in raleigh and get a ticket in raleigh, you might wanna pay a ticket after awhile.

O rly?

Funny...I'd be highly curious on what grounds.
And even if they did, all one has to do is send a certified letter saying "Prove the validity of this debt; if you can't, you must cease attempts and collections and rectify this mistake, per the fair debt collection practices act".

Given that they will have zero documentation that matters, they'll have to, and it's a simple matter of checking your credit report in a few months, and all is well

I'd like a link, or some support of your statement.

I know. I just don't want to. I don't feel like it. I don't know why. I deserved the ticket fair and square, I don't get many tickets (actually, this is ticket #2 since 2003 for parking)...I just simply don't feel like paying it

what about parking tickets you received on a campus?

I got one on Duke campus, tried to appeal it, but I don't think it worked

I never heard anything back from them on it though so maybe they dropped it

^^^^ Yeah, have fun with that.

I had a ticket that I apparently got on one of the side streets off campus and two years later they were like, "omg fucking bitch pay this fucking ticket or we'll send it to a fucking collection agency." I asked for the documentation and they had it all in triplicate. So I ended up having to pay the ticket (though they were nice and waived the late fees since I convinced them that I had no idea this ticket even existed, which I didn't)

When I was moving to Raleigh, I took a trip up with my mom's car during the summer to move stuff. Apparently I got a ticket in that time, but it blew away or someone took it or something else happened, because I never knew about it until about a year later, when my mom (in Georgia) got a letter saying they were going to take her car until she paid it.

What kind of documentation?

Anything that'd hold up in the face of the FDCPA? No. Because you never agreed to the debt, never signed anything, and probably the best they have is the ticket, and maybe pictures of your car. Nothing that consititutes anything that would hold up under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

It's called a scare tactic, dear. What 'documentation' did they give you? Copies of the parking ticket? That's not validation of a debt

What can be done is to have ask for a judgment to be entered against you, but that's not a direct avenue to collections and a negative mark on your credit score.

Don't even get me started.

I have been ticketed by Duke TWICE for parking in the Visitor's Parking at Duke across from DUMC.

I am parked exactly where I am supposed to park. However, I have been ticketed twice as though I were a staff member or student. I am neither. The first appeal I sent was very polite: 'My son is a patient who goes into clinic several times a week. His file number is ___. If you check your records, you will find that I am not employed by Duke or a student." The second appeal. . .well, not so nice.

So you're trying to claim that people don't have to pay fines they don't agree to?

What about if someone loses a lawsuit? If you never agree that you owe money, do you not have to pay it?

That's not at all what I'm saying, and you know it.

Again: not what I said.

My aim there is to help folks know their goddamn rights when it comes to their credit reports, since a vast majority of people have no clue about that shit.
Presenting personal experience with intimidation tactics as a factual basis for a statement is simply perpetuating that kind of ignorance.
