What should it be?I'm liking the look of the Bushmaster ACR/Magpul Masadahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJhPMIVgF6cSimple, versatile, and American designed.I'll be honest though, the only assault rifle I have ever shot is an AK, so I'm no expert.[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 4:38 PM. 11/18/2008 4:35:58 PM
he means "Assault rifle" not "Armalite"
11/18/2008 4:36:02 PM
that's definitely what I meant[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 4:37 PM. Reason : not like AR-15]

I am a huge fan of this
11/18/2008 4:37:45 PM
looks dang solid for grunts...
11/18/2008 4:39:58 PM
In a perfect world it would be the HK 416, but the way the system works it will never be.
11/18/2008 4:46:30 PM
I want one of theseThe semi-auto civilian model is going to run about $1400Wonder how much the license + gun would cost for the real version?
11/18/2008 4:48:27 PM
I wish they would move up from the .223 caliber to the .308 caliber. I don't see that happening though.
11/18/2008 4:48:47 PM
11/18/2008 4:48:56 PM
oooh ooohh can it fire bigger 7.62 rounds ???
11/18/2008 4:49:58 PM
It's adaptable to fire 6.8mm SPC, 7.62x39, and 6.5mm Grendel. [Edited on November 18, 2008 at 4:52 PM. Reason : I don't think it can fire 7.62x51 though]
11/18/2008 4:51:42 PM
11/18/2008 4:52:34 PM
54 & 51 are the best 7.62 rndss
11/18/2008 4:54:49 PM
If the Army is forward thinking enough they'll completely scrap the AR system. It won't happen right now though, too much else going on, too much of a pain in the ass to change weapon systems and possibly calibers in the middle of a multi-theater war.]
11/18/2008 7:27:02 PM
Bring back the M-14
11/18/2008 7:29:16 PM
Whatever they pick I can almost assure you that it will be a bull pup design.
11/18/2008 7:31:00 PM
There are like 5 fucking gun threads, post in one.
11/18/2008 7:37:22 PM
There are like 20 threads about mileyAnd like 1000 threads devoted to mediocre TWW chicksGo bitch in those, this is chit chat
11/18/2008 7:56:52 PM
Isn't the M4 supposed to remain relevant for like 20 more years?
11/18/2008 8:01:23 PM
They should replace them with the AK.
11/18/2008 8:15:38 PM
11/18/2008 9:22:44 PM
I doubt US military goes to a bullpup design. And if we did, I doubt it would be an Israeli one, although that gun does seem cool. I could see it being used by SWAT teams.
11/18/2008 9:36:58 PM
The Magpul Masada sounds hot.
11/18/2008 9:42:43 PM
^^Why not? The shorter overall length makes them easier to wield in an urban environment, which we seem to find ourselves in more and more often.

^^^ It also unbalances the gun and makes it harder to reload.[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 9:56 PM. Reason : ^^^]

Sadly it won't be this:
11/18/2008 10:00:32 PM
I like the M4. The biggest argument against it is that the 5.56 round doesn't stop someone cold. I think the increased accuracy and the ability to fire more quickly and carry more ammo because of the small round make up for this flaw though. Just put a few more rounds in them if you can't stop them with one hit. Or place a head shot or two in there.

M14 ftwon the original suggestion...what is the adjustable - piston about? Ability to change pressure?[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 10:49 PM. Reason : ]

^^ of course, but I also have the right to call them out on being a whiny bastard.^ It's good as a sniper rifle, but does the lack of a pistol grip hurt it as an assault rifle?[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 11:17 PM. Reason : ]
11/18/2008 11:16:06 PM
zf-1 gets my vote
11/18/2008 11:27:44 PM
I don't think so.IMO a pistol grip only buys you a tiny bit of comfort in close quarters. The weight hurts it more than the lack of a pistol grip in most situations.
11/18/2008 11:29:38 PM
I, too, vouch for the M-14.
11/18/2008 11:55:19 PM
there are more modern types of m-14 models out there, but most of them have been updated to just the sniper variants instead of the assault variants. I also highly doubt the military will adopt a new weapon system right now or any time soon. As someone said, its a bad idea to change weapons in a middle of a fight. Ironically, that's pretty much how the m-16's first started out. Opps. The biggest shift in our military is electronics and communications. In the next 10-20 years, we'll see land warrior types of systems being deployed for every soldier with high-tech communications and intel gathering resources. Not only that but the super solider 2025 idea. I'd expect a firearms to be adopted will probably be when the US upgrades our military to the next techno-soldier platform. By then, we might have rail or energy based weapons.Don't forget, there's quite a few companies who have developed portable fuel cell's that weights under 8 lbs and can power a laptop device for more than 90 hours. Then there's also the invisible textiles, powered suits (think Ironman), and other crazy things being researched.
11/18/2008 11:58:43 PM
^^^ 5e ftw
11/19/2008 12:01:05 AM
the lightweight plastic polymers make it easy to carry in the field and reduce jamming from dust particlesalso, the air-pump system keeps this puppy running very quietly, a must for the stealth enivronmentand finally, the bright colors throw a would-be attacker off guard just long enough to stick a few rounds to his headall in all, its got my vote[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 1:02 AM. Reason : single OR rapid fire....nice]
11/19/2008 1:01:14 AM
It's a good system, but I think it lacks stopping power.
11/19/2008 1:05:00 AM
nah, just pump it a lotcommon mistake though, dont feel bad
11/19/2008 1:06:09 AM
what hurts the M-14 is that it is absolutely impossible to use in anything but single-shot fire. the walk on that weapon in auto is crazy. but it is an excellent weapon. we used them as sniper rifles with my anti-terrorism unit
11/19/2008 1:23:30 AM
Something like the L85A2 (British) would be great. Its short (good for urban ops and vehicle crews), long barrel in bullpup config (good distance and accuracy), proven weapon that still has the heft to bash a enemy's head in when needed.
