Was replacing the front pads and rotors last night and on the passenger side one of the caliper bolts was striped out.
I am able to slide the caliper bolt in and out - threads do not catch!
What I would like to know and what I am afraid of is that I need to replace the steering knuckle. Yes?
If so where do I find one of these? I'm a johnny weekender - I have swapped out a water pump and do my own brakes. Is this something I could tackle myself? The caliper is ok as far as I can tell - should I replace that? What about other items to replace while I have it off? Also - would I need to have it realigned again after all of this work? Any special tools I would need? 11/25/2008 8:25:27 AM |

you could helicoil it, or like was mentioned earlier, just replace the entire knuckle. no need to replace the caliper. you could go to lkq and get the knuckle also.

yeah it'd probably be cheaper, i'd trust a new knuckle more, but either should work 11/25/2008 12:06:45 PM |

helicoil would work just fine
especially since those bolts only have ~13 lb.ft. of torque on them 11/25/2008 12:22:12 PM |
