Good lord, whenever I rotate my neck or arch my back it sounds like fireworks going off. It's a miracle I can walk straight...

A massage therapy center does a special in the office park I work in with a huge discount, so maybe I'll wait until they come back again (I think it comes in mid-Dec.).

My upper back and shoulder muscles are so fucking tight they feel like they are going to burst. It's just stress from work and school, but it's uncomfortable... at least it's only physical and not mental stress..

i have both

but yea my back kills from being hunched over the books + being stressed. i also have mental stress but that is what regular therapists are for

i wish i could find a massage therapist that was a regular therapist and we could just kill 2 birds with one stones. but then they'd probably have physical and mental stress.

is this another one of those "injuries" like you'd have whenever we played intramural softball and the temperature dropped below 60 degrees and your trick-elbow would act up?

or like when we played pick up bball and you'd miss a shot on offense then you'd have a mystery injury that prevented you from running up the court to play defense....but then you'd be good when the ball came back down the court.....

Ugh, no? I hurt my back last year and after about a month of the dull pain and occasion sore hammy and calf didn't go away, I thought about doctors. I scheduled an appt for a real doc at Raleigh Ortho but I couldn't get in there for a couple weeks, so I figured I'd go to a chiro who could take me the next day.

His diagnosis went like this:

"What did you do to hurt it?"
*told him what it was*
"Can you bend over?"
*bend over, show him greatly reduced range of motion and flexibility*

"Alright, I'm gonna align you, come over here."
*warms my back up with the little stretchy machine, brings me to another table, craaaccckkk*

"Alright, pay your copay and I'll ring your insurance up for as much as possible, come back in in another week and I'll do it from the other side and at which point you should be straightened out...oh, and I'll need that copay and Ill hit your insurance up again when you do"

Next day, the pain was much worse and more acute, scared the fuck out of me. I went the doctor route, they took xrays (which showed nothing) and prescribed NSAIDs and some PT. The PT helped but the problem never went away. I finally had an MRI done where they found a bulged disc and gave me a plan of action that should help me get back to normal.

You tell me which one you'd choose.

^sounds like you found yourself a shitty ass chiropractor

not all are the same...but I can see how you would use your own ONE experience to make a total blanket statement about the rest.

And Raleigh Ortho =/= "doctor"
when I said "they'll just give you drugs" I was assuming a regular doctor, not specialty

chiropractors do not deserve the Dr. title

their business is covered in fraud, and bogus claims

"expert opinions" are given in cases when it makes the "patient", the law firm they are paid by, and themselves a penny .. hmm .. how many fender benders have chiro's said this is a stupid case, there is nothing wrong with this person ....

grant it, there are some chiro's that are legit, but the vast majority are crooks

one of my very good friends from back home dad is a chiropractor, hes in prison now for over 400 cases of mail fraud, 200 cases of insurance fraud, and false claims to CURE CANCER by manipulating the spine .. this guy will get out in a few years AND STILL HAVE HIS CHIROPRACTIC LICENSE

Ask for Jack. He's not a chiropractor but a physical therapists and he specializes in neck and back pain/injuries. Its amazing what he can do. He's usually booked pretty far in advance but if you ask to be notified of any openings due to cancellation one usually comes up in the next day or so.

Some chiros are crazy like this.

Others aren't.

It's like most fields where some people are legitimate and others aren't.

Go see one of the chiros who doesn't claim he can cure cancer. It should help a lot.

You know there are billions of people in the world who are doing just fine despite the fact that they have never heard of a chiropractor. They sound like bullshit to me. I think they make half that shit up as they go.

That's good?!?!?

Hey, people make mistakes, and depending on the severity or nature of the mistake, they may deserve another chance or two. After all, many people regard their mistakes as life-changing educational opportunities, not negligent crimes they need to attempt to cover up. Of course, yes, an excessive frequency of mistakes or the particular nature of certain mistakes would warrant professional disaccreditation, perhaps permanently. I just don't trust the "top-down" authoritarian legal framework placed on medical professionals. (And ask any libertarian about the tendency for licensure to play more of a role in creating and protecting cartels than consumer safety.)

I think "medical acts" between consenting adults should be 100% free of undue* governmental influence. (*Normal protections against harm, neglect, fraud, and other crimes would still apply, of course.) We should legalize "snake oil", so to speak. I mean, we've got services like Wikipedia, Snopes, Angie's List and certainly more to come. These and other "bottom-up" grassroots communication and organizational efforts, as well as private efforts aimed at closing the digital divide should be the focus, not the creating and supporting of an ever-more authoritarian hierarchy of laws and legally defined professional class divisions.

I have no fucking clue why I care about grammar so much. I hated english in high school as well as the semester I had to take freshman year.
