this may be old news to some of you but these things seem to be in use by kids today. the point is that adults can't hear it. i downloaded the mp3 of one off a site and i had no trouble hearing it.

its so annoying to me that i can't imagine that people can't hear it.

http://www.free-ringtones.ie/download_mp3tone/6249-Sound_Effect-High_Frequency_Mosquito.mp3

i guess i'll try it out on my parents this weekend.

I can't hear some of the highest pitch ones.

The ones I can hear annoy the hell out of me. If anyone used that cell tone to text constantly through class when I was in HS I would have turned them in on day 2.

yeah the one that is the online sample is horrible. i followed up on it and due to the speakers on your computer you're likely to be able to hear some noise. i just went to the ringtone center for my cell phone and they had a 20khz - 15khz one to download. TRUTH be told, i could hear them only if i put my ear up to the phone, but other than that there was nothing, which is largely different to the one on the computer which i could hear effortlessly

I have one on my phone. If I'm feeling mischievous I'll set it off around some friends and see how long it takes for them to notice.

man 16kHz is the last one I can actually sorta "hear"

I can "detect" (as more of a stereo pressure than a tone) up to 18 but I might just be deceiving myself. Anything beyond that and I just hear the latent noise.

I still hear that high-pitched ring almost all CRT monitors and TVs make though, and that drives me nuts sometimes. Most of my hearing loss is unfortunately in the day-to-day midrange...DAMN YOU LOUD ROCK AND ROLL MUSICS

I can hear up to 19kHz definitely.
At 20KHz I can not tell if i hear the noise it am just biased b.c i know its on. Either way there is so much attenuations thanks to my ears natural low pass filters that i can barely if at all notice it.

At around 18khz the only way I could tell they were on was when I was starting to get a headache. So I wouldn't know if it was on or not I just held the mouse over the play icon, looked somewhere else, tapped the button a lot, and waited to hear/sense something. Now my ears are ringing.

First heard tried to hear this when I was 17. Couldn't hear it.

The one you've posted must be a LOT lower frequency because I could hear that one EASY.

I think it's hilarious that some stores have started playing this noise in their parking lots to drive away loitering teens.

It was first used by the teens to communicate in school without detection, now it's being turned against them.

I heard the mp3 in the original post. it hurt my ears though, too much of that would get annoying as hell.

I can, if its quiet inside, hear if a TV is on within a house (sound down of course) because I can hear the high frequency sound it makes just from the screen being on.
