this may be old news to some of you but these things seem to be in use by kids today. the point is that adults can't hear it. i downloaded the mp3 of one off a site and i had no trouble hearing it. its so annoying to me that i can't imagine that people can't hear it. http://www.free-ringtones.ie/download_mp3tone/6249-Sound_Effect-High_Frequency_Mosquito.mp3i guess i'll try it out on my parents this weekend.

11/25/2008 3:21:34 PM
holy crap old as dirt
11/25/2008 3:21:47 PM
I can't hear some of the highest pitch ones. The ones I can hear annoy the hell out of me. If anyone used that cell tone to text constantly through class when I was in HS I would have turned them in on day 2.
11/25/2008 3:22:07 PM
why don't they just put their phone on vibrate?
11/25/2008 3:23:36 PM
In HS my friend had fart ringtones and they sounded real as hellWe would always hide his phone in fat girls desks and call it during classlots of lols

11/25/2008 3:27:37 PM
11/25/2008 3:37:56 PM
my sister had one of these ringtones
11/25/2008 3:38:46 PM
i hate the nextel phonesgoddamn iti dont want to hear your fucking conversation .. with the incessant beep
11/25/2008 3:39:12 PM
god damn that was painfully high pitched
11/25/2008 3:39:31 PM
yeah the one that is the online sample is horrible. i followed up on it and due to the speakers on your computer you're likely to be able to hear some noise. i just went to the ringtone center for my cell phone and they had a 20khz - 15khz one to download. TRUTH be told, i could hear them only if i put my ear up to the phone, but other than that there was nothing, which is largely different to the one on the computer which i could hear effortlessly
11/25/2008 3:44:48 PM
quality of speaker
11/25/2008 3:51:57 PM
my cat did not enjoy that

I have one on my phone. If I'm feeling mischievous I'll set it off around some friends and see how long it takes for them to notice.
11/25/2008 4:11:27 PM
it sounds like the sound the tv makes when the volume is all the way down
11/25/2008 4:13:58 PM
man 16kHz is the last one I can actually sorta "hear"I can "detect" (as more of a stereo pressure than a tone) up to 18 but I might just be deceiving myself. Anything beyond that and I just hear the latent noise. I still hear that high-pitched ring almost all CRT monitors and TVs make though, and that drives me nuts sometimes. Most of my hearing loss is unfortunately in the day-to-day midrange...DAMN YOU LOUD ROCK AND ROLL MUSICS$1
11/25/2008 4:41:47 PM
crap.. last one i can hear was the 17 one
11/25/2008 5:49:18 PM
you people are probably not hearing the high ones because your computer speakers suck
11/25/2008 5:53:42 PM
dude.. i have head phones on....

I feel old now. I couldn't hear much after like 14 khz
11/25/2008 6:13:26 PM
if i turned the volume all the way up i can hear up to 19 kHz, but only barely. at normal volume, i can only hear up to 17kHz.
11/25/2008 6:18:13 PM
I can hear up to 19kHz definitely. At 20KHz I can not tell if i hear the noise it am just biased b.c i know its on. Either way there is so much attenuations thanks to my ears natural low pass filters that i can barely if at all notice it.

My dog didn't change his demeanor
11/25/2008 6:39:28 PM
holy fuck that shit was loud
11/25/2008 6:47:50 PM
turn your volume down
11/25/2008 6:48:24 PM
At around 18khz the only way I could tell they were on was when I was starting to get a headache. So I wouldn't know if it was on or not I just held the mouse over the play icon, looked somewhere else, tapped the button a lot, and waited to hear/sense something. Now my ears are ringing.
11/25/2008 6:54:39 PM
OK..did a controlled test with my 2 kids (5 and 3)..they both can hear 24..my wife can hear 18..I can hear 17....kinda cool.On a side note, My Jack Russle just tried to bite my sack!

First heard tried to hear this when I was 17. Couldn't hear it.The one you've posted must be a LOT lower frequency because I could hear that one EASY.[Edited on November 25, 2008 at 7:14 PM. Reason : v clever clever]
11/25/2008 7:11:57 PM
then you didn't really hear it when you were 17, did you?
11/25/2008 7:13:12 PM
my ear hurts now at first I didn't mind it but now it hurts
11/25/2008 7:25:09 PM
Can't hear the one on this site. I the best I could hear on the website was the "49 and younger" one
11/25/2008 7:26:28 PM
I think it's hilarious that some stores have started playing this noise in their parking lots to drive away loitering teens. It was first used by the teens to communicate in school without detection, now it's being turned against them.

I heard the mp3 in the original post. it hurt my ears though, too much of that would get annoying as hell.
11/25/2008 10:20:29 PM
I can, if its quiet inside, hear if a TV is on within a house (sound down of course) because I can hear the high frequency sound it makes just from the screen being on.
