11/26/2008 12:18:12 AM
my condo is really a mix of mod and contemporary, somewhat industrial, high concrete ceilings, exposed duct work, have a lot of furniture that doesnt try to hide or conceal itself, if that makes sense... and I have a very eclectic taste in arthere are some pics from when I was first unpacking[Edited on November 26, 2008 at 12:23 AM. I was thinking some images that were individual pics/images but then once both sides were raised up it would form a new, big image (basically a Mad Magazine Fold-In table) haha

get a print of something you like in whatever size the top is, cut, lacquer/varnish winit's much much lighter than everything you have... so unless you want it to go with the cabinets i'd stain everything but the top at least, have it match something you like/want to keep a long time so they go together at least?
11/26/2008 10:28:58 AM
ikea FTW

11/26/2008 2:10:56 PM
off to the side somewhere until I need it, but when opened it will go where the polka dot rug is, which is actually somewhere else now, but thats the location

Looks like it is made of pine which doesn't take a lot of darker stains very well IMO. If you do stain it dark go with something very dark and it will look good. Minwax has a "chocolate" color stain that is almost black on a lot of woods, but it comes out a little lighter on pine. Definitely avoid anything with reddish tint like the "cherry" colored stains as they look really wonky on pine.It would look cool if you painted it. A distressed black top coat with off white or burgundy underneath would look great.[Edited on November 26, 2008 at 2:14 PM. Reason : l]
11/26/2008 2:12:05 PM
how would I do that? just paint it burgundy then black then use sandpaper?
11/26/2008 2:17:06 PM
You basically paint it one burgundy, let it dry, put some wax on the areas to be distressed, paint it with the black top coat, and then clean off the waxed spots revealing the burgundy underneath.. You have to think about where it should be distressed...Edges, corners, maybe a few spots on the top, etc. Hit up google for more info.[Edited on November 26, 2008 at 2:20 PM. Reason : l]

11/26/2008 10:33:59 PM
thanks, me too, fits MUCH better than the one I had before
11/26/2008 10:34:52 PM
the only problem i have with coffee tables like that is when i put books/magazines out, sometimes i get feedback from people thinking im trying to be pretentious with the materials i have on / in them.it's a delicate balance.when in reality, the books are usually gifts and the magazines are ones i subscribe to, be it art mags or the economist. ahah
11/26/2008 10:37:07 PM
hahaha yeah, some of mine are probably not completely coffee table friendly... I have a weird fascination with crime scene photos and have these in there:
