I renewed my insurance policy two weeks ago for the next 6 months, and my car died a week later. I've decided to get a new car and shopped online for insurance quotes and found some excellent savings. I called my insurance company and they told me I couldn't get my money back if I switched since I had already paid. Illegal, correct?

I thought the insurance policy only applied to the car it was insuring. So no car = no need to pay for the insurance.
