first off, happy thanksgiving secondly, as we all know black friday is almost here my 2 options are Garmin Nuvi 205W 139bux or Magellan 1412 147bux I have been reading both reviews and are really torn between which to get. They both seem to have pros and cons. Im looking for something thats easy to use. I know nothing about GPS this will be the first one or do you think I should hold out until after the sales to get a different one but a good price? thanks 11/27/2008 5:11:53 PM |

Obvious Question: What are you going to do with it? What's your intended application? 11/27/2008 9:00:18 PM |

Well she's obviously running drugs with it. I suggest the Raymarine E120 12.1 system. It comes with all the bells and whistles of a regular gps and more. Plus a one year warranty. 11/27/2008 11:04:01 PM |

i've got a nuvi 350 and have been happy as hell with it.. the interface the nuvi uses is f'in awesome and one of if not the best i've seen.
so, that's what i'd go for unless there's something the other one has that you just have to have.. 11/27/2008 11:42:14 PM |

I picked up the Nuvi 255w today from dell.com for $171... it's like the 205w but it has text-to-speech, which in my opinion is one of the best features you can get in a gps these days 11/28/2008 5:46:40 AM |

^^ wanted to get the 255W at office depot but they were out, had to settle for the 205W
I tested it on the way back from atlanta and it worked really well. Super easy to set up and get going with. Putting in address/places was easy since it had pretty good predictive text. I never got a chance to use the other features like local places and whatnot, but as far as helping you get one from place to another, it was great. 11/28/2008 10:35:55 PM |

How do you update maps on these things? Do you have to pay?
How important is screen size? 12/8/2008 10:18:36 AM |

generally yes you pay for map updates.
they're all relatively similar in screen size, though i will say I prefer the wide screen ones compared to the square ones. 12/8/2008 11:06:04 AM |

You buy the CD/DVD or you can buy an SD card update if you have a SD card slot. They cost about $100. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do
From what I have read the Streetpilot 2000/7000 series are still the best. From what I have heard the Nuvi 700/800/5000 series just has a bunch of useless shit on it. Is there anyone that has used both and would like to comment on their preference?

Which is better? The Garmin 260 or the Garmin 350. I would normally assume that the higher the number the better. I found a 350 for about $50 cheaper than the 260. 12/13/2008 11:36:11 AM |
