and I told him it's because I'm a guitar player and I either wear suits or t-shirts and don't go to any functions where a polo shirt is appropriate. Then I realized that I sound like Nick Andopolous when he says, "I'm a drummer."The point stands about the polos, though...I don't go anywhere where they're appropriate.

11/28/2008 6:48:46 PM

^^ merchandise repairs and modificationswe do a lot of customized items that require an experienced handi'm of the opinion that a place is either casual enough for a t-shirt and jeans or formal enough for a shirt and tie...i think polo shirts just look bland and bad ]
11/28/2008 10:19:41 PM
polos are dumb... i prefer my boys naked
11/28/2008 11:08:07 PM

I dont own one pair of khakis. I hate them and think they are worthless and quite ugly. I also wore them to school all through middle school and high school - so maybe im biased haha.I wear black or gray slacks to work everyday with a button up shirt most days and polos here and there. Since I started doing recruiting for our company, we all wear company polos and the groups ive gone out with to schools want to match pants and they always pick khaki . i bought a pair of brown slacks and wear those instead; no one has said anything yet luckily haha.not directly related, but people are always genuinely shocked when I say that I don't own one pair of khakis.

work, jeans and polo...although Friday is casual and I go with some sort of T shirt usually sports related. I am beginning to move that to Mon-Thurs also (since many coworkers do); however, I bought a good amount of polos last year after I started working at this location.

11/29/2008 7:27:36 AM
whatever floats your boatyou can't play guitar in a polo shirt and be taken seriouslycome to think of it...kim deal can play guitar in a polo shirt and be taken seriously, but kim deal might be the coolest person on earthshe could probably play guitar in a chicken suit and pull it off ]
11/29/2008 9:28:03 AM
If you decide to get some polo shirts, go to http://www.jiffyshirts.com They have a bunch of name brand stuff for pretty cheap price. I just bought 2 new ones a couple weeks ago for $40 or so (polyester polos usually cost 40-60 a piece)
11/29/2008 9:30:16 AM
if i wear any polos, it'll be because the boss bought them for methx for the link, though
11/29/2008 9:35:18 AM

11/29/2008 9:35:51 AM

11/29/2008 11:05:16 AM
my philosophy on a musician's attire is the same as my philosophy on my personal attireyou either go full formal (suits or uniforms) or full casual (whatever you were wearing during sound check)polo shirts are okay, but you're immediately working from an aesthetic deficit
11/29/2008 11:09:27 AM
I won't argue with you on that, I think polo shirts are usually pretty unnecessary as well. They fall into that weird grey area between casual and nice most times. However, I am a drummer/musician/artist/whateverhiphobbyyoucaretoinserthere and I own polo shirts, not because I think they are cool, but because I think that it is hard to be taken seriously as a working adult and college graduate without them. You've got to play the game man.
11/29/2008 11:16:39 AM
But events arent either "very formal" or "very casual" Your opinion on fashion is simply flawed.Though i I do tend to wear button downs in most situations where a Polo would be very much appropriate.
11/29/2008 11:23:45 AM
^^ you can play the game without wearing polos...that's what dress shirts are for
11/29/2008 11:38:01 AM
i think i have one actual ralph polo somewherei got it at goodwill
11/29/2008 11:42:54 AM
11/29/2008 1:55:34 PM
^ i never claimed they werei claimed that they're either formal enough for a suitor informal enough for a t-shirtthe polo shirt is purpose-built for no man's land

11/29/2008 2:41:23 PM
but a white collar job implies a shirt and tiei'm just sayin', i ain't never wearin' no polosincidentally, i'm at work right now and i'm wearing a marc bolan t-shirt

11/29/2008 3:00:19 PM
What if your job falls into neither/both of those? I'm a salaried professional who works in an office, but I wear cowboy shirts to work, mostly.
11/29/2008 3:02:06 PM
ok, if you think you can start a pop/rock band and wear polos, you're kidding yourself. New music isn't about just the music, its a function of local and national culture. you can't convince people that what you're playing or saying has any merit or relevance if you look like your daily routine involves driving your jetta to harris teeter to buy cabernet for your pot luck dinner party. established musicians can wear whatever the hell they want, see: brian wilson, david gilmore, ect.[Edited on November 29, 2008 at 3:07 PM. Reason : i.e. clothing is a reflection of one's self, not just a functional piece of covering for your bits][Edited on November 29, 2008 at 3:07 PM. Reason : damnit, missed another palindrome]
11/29/2008 3:06:04 PM
^ bingo^^ cowboy shirts are collared button ups with proper cuffs...way better than a polo
11/29/2008 3:09:23 PM
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't dickriding polos. I'm not a fan and much prefer button shirts in almost every fashion situation.
11/29/2008 3:37:40 PM
I dont wear polos very often outside of work but I have certainly worn polos live with CTA i <3 tshirts though.
