I like it that way. Every ornament has personal meaning to me. My grandmother gave me an ornament every Christmas from the day I was born, and all the others were given to me for various other reasons. I don't add shit to it just to fill space.

oh, and I can't stand colored lights

hahaha That orange glow behind it is actually a fire!

The lights I have don't get hot and it's only ever on when someone is around so yeah...

^That's cool dj, we managed to do that this year too because we combined two houses. Every ornament we hung had a story to it. Was a fun night!

^ yeah that's true, when my ex and I lived together we had a lot more ornaments. I guess now that I am on my own again I should get a smaller tree.

Ours won't be up for a while. but my mom loves lots of lights! and every year we get 2-3 new hallmark ornaments. so ours is basically a hallmark tree with red balls everywhere and lights.

my parents are getting an artificial tree this year. but i was like, why didn't you buy one LAST year after christmas when there were on sale. and they were like "well we hope they go on sale this year" and i'm like yea but they're not going on sale until like 5 seconds before christmas or after

and they're slowly forcing us to make our tree look "nice" --- meaning all of my totally amazing homemade ornaments from elementary school are fewer and fewer each year. i'm offended.

The only thing I want from my parent's house is my stocking. It's pink with a porcelain old world Santa head on it. It's very antique looking and I lurve it.

I don't have room for a tree I do make wreaths for my doors and I put up some old school chunky lights in my window. I am also hand painting glass ornaments for friends. Holler if you want one

I'd be offended too. A matching tree is not personal at all and ugly as shit. Go for wild crazy with things that mean something to the family.

btw fake trees suck.

This is my last year of supporting cut trees though. Next year we start finding trees with the ball attached so we can replant it.

nice looking trees! I'm going out probably tomorrow after work to buy my first ever real christmas tree (used a fake one the last 5 yrs). I can't wait! Pics will be posted

We should also make a thread for outdoor house christmas decorations.

I am a fan of formal trees as well as personal trees.

Why can't you do both?

When I get a house I will have at least 2 trees. I like so many style of decorations, I want one in every room

On a funny note, I found black Santa wrapping paper at Wal-Mart. I am wrapping everyone's presents in it this year.

We have always had an artificial tree. My dad HATES the idea of tree farms and cutting down trees. I guess it makes sense too, not too environmentally friendly. ours looks good though. no complaints.

how is tree farming any less environmentally friendly than a non-biodegradable plastic tree sitting in a landfill for 100 years?

I mean making plastic for tree versus cutting one down.

Only reason I do it is because we did it growing up and the smell is out of this world. But like I said, last tree without the roots this year. Time to get what I want and give back too!

exactly

chopping down christmas trees isn't exactly like mowing down an entire rain forest

not to mention most trees are grown on farms and planted for that very purpose. That is like saying that eating corn is bad for the environment. It's the same concept. It's not like these people are clear cutting forests for your Christmas tree.

furthermore, a good portion of dead christmas trees are used to sink in lakes to create fish beds.

and buying a christmas tree is supporting NC crops.

and the fish/lake bed thing.

or we just put ours behind our shed and let the squirrels play in it until it rots into the ground.

i get that it is cutting down trees, but these trees are more like a crop. they weren't there to begin with. someone planted them all in little rows to be harvested.

[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 2:21 PM. Reason : you people bring it up with my dad not me. I like the smell of a real tree.]

Mine is artificial, but I have had the same tree for close to 10 years. But in no way am I against real trees. Shit, I would love to have a real tree I just hate cleaning up the mess. My family in PA owns a tree farm actually.

that's another thing that i never understood. people that wait until like Christmas Eve to put up their tree. I don't see the point in going through all that trouble just to take it down 2 days later.

a lot of those people leave it up until new years

we don't even take our tree down until the end of the month (which is only 2 days after the 2 days later)

but my dad used to do this...well his parents i mean. they would set up the tree and a train that went around it with the white stuffing for snow and all the little village parts all on christmas eve. i think its kinda cool.
