Im guessing this is a special hitch pin designed to shear at a lower than normal limit and some poly bumpers on the reciever? Interesting.

Why do you think the hitch pin shears? That would seem dangerous to me. I'm guessing this is made by inserting one tube into another so that it has 4-6" of movement in either direction. The rubber pieces just act as a shock absorber when they compress.
I prefer just to leave my receiver in. Let the people that bump their way into parking spots end up with the damage. 12/1/2008 9:55:44 PM |

yeah, no way the pin sheers. like ^ said, probably just some sort of sliding mechanism similar to the kind the make that are designed to reduce shock loads from a trailer transferring to the tow vehicle. 12/2/2008 1:04:38 AM |

It just looked like a lot of movement from the video. 12/2/2008 7:41:14 AM |

I agree, but I liked the video, busting the ass of the liberty, etc. It popped up on youtube while I was wasting time watching videos of old chevy trucks. 12/2/2008 6:21:48 PM |

That's a pretty good product idea. Shitty implementation, but you could make that pretty useful, pretty easily. 12/2/2008 7:24:19 PM |

It would only be useful if it ran the full length of the bumper but that would defeat the purpose of having a bumper. Why protect what is there to protect? 12/2/2008 11:39:26 PM |

Yes I did and I saw the damage, the only way I could possibly warrant using that would be on one of those suvs, on a truck all it did was dent the bumper. Unless this product is less than $100 it would not be cost effective. Also they show a bunch of rear end collisions and I cant see this doing much in the case of a 45mps rear ender. 12/3/2008 12:35:30 PM |

Once I was in the line at Cookout and this girl in a Honda was arguing with her boyfriend and her car kept moving forward. I was in my old Discovery and had a 2" ball hitch on it. She hit me at 1 or 2 mph but the only thing that happened was my hitch partially folded in her bumper. I can see this thing being of some use in low speed incidents. 12/3/2008 12:43:13 PM |
