"Wildlife expert doubts cougar sighting

Comment on this story

CHAPEL HILL - A state wildlife biologist says it's "highly unlikely" that a cougar was walking around Chapel Hill on Friday.
George Strater of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission thinks a Chapel Hill woman and her 22-year-old nephew probably saw a big dog, rather than a cougar.

"We get calls from time to time," he said. "If there's a track or something we'll go out and look. We need some type of physical evidence."

The eastern cougar or mountain lion is on the Endangered Species List. Except for a small population in Florida, where the animal is known as the Florida panther, there is no evidence of cougars in the Southeast.

But they're smart and secretive, right? The two witnesses -- one an Army private and avid hunter -- are sure of what they saw Friday morning. They say they saw it head on and in profile and also saw it leap over a tree trunk. They said it was not a bobcat and had a thick tail two and a half feet long.

Is there any chance they could have seen a big cat? Strater doubts it.

"It just seems highly unlikely."

They might be a little pretentious, but I'm sure you could find some cougars in Chapel Hill.

"Cougar, 4394 up, 544 down
An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man. The cougar can be anyone from an overly surgically altered wind tunnel victim, to an absolute sad and bloated old horn-meister, to a real hottie or milf. Cougars are gaining in popularity -- particularly the true hotties -- as young men find not only a sexual high, but many times a chick with her shit together.

That cougar I met last night, showed me shit I didn't know existed, I'm goin back for more."

most of the old people in florida are too old and senile to be cougars. we know what you're trying to argue evan but you are wrong. just click the back bar on your browser and go "oh it must be a heterosexual thing"
