Hey Guys,
i was hoping someone would be able to help me figure out what is going on with my monitor.
There are several lines appearing on it. They cross the screen at an angle and are evenly spaced.
The lines get closer together when the resolution is increased. They are also present when the monitor is disconnected.
Anyone seen this before? 12/3/2008 9:19:02 AM |

flyback lines
You can try a Color Return on it(found in the monitor controls). If that doesn't work I can try fixing it for a price. 12/3/2008 9:22:24 AM |

I haven't found anything about color return on the controls. I have played with the brightness and contrast but to no avail. 12/3/2008 9:37:15 AM |

Ok, i did find it just now but it says its only available after warm up? The monitor has been on for about 30 minutes now. 12/3/2008 9:46:20 AM |

took about an hour.
This solution worked.
Is this a sign that something is going wrong with the monitor? 12/3/2008 10:30:20 AM |

It's a common trinitron problem. It's designed to self-correct brightness/color problems as the monitor ages, but eventually fails. You'll have to use the Color Return more frequently from now on. Eventually that won't work either. Turning the brightness all the way down will help. When you get to this point, there's a hardware fix that will bring things back into range and buy you another couple years. Soldering on the back of a CRT is not safe, but I've fixed hundreds of these things.
Wonderful monitors otherwise. They just stopped manufacturing them last year. At one time I had 4 of them in a multi-monitor setup, 80" wide. Had to drop back to two, my desk couldn't handle the weight. 12/3/2008 3:59:13 PM |

My 22" Sun monitor does this, but I can't even see the lines at the resolution I run it at.
I don't recall a color return options in the menu though, but the colors look perfectly fine to me, and it calibrates properly using OS X's built in by-eye calibration. 12/3/2008 4:11:15 PM |

On Sun GDM-5510(flat front plastic case) it's called "Image Restoration" under the "Color" menu. The GDM-5410(round front plastic case) may not have it, I don't remember. 12/3/2008 4:15:15 PM |
