settings on the automatic side of the dial? I want my clothes "dry". I can't even imagine why anyone would ever want their clothes half-way dried. if it's so flippin' automatic, just put a damn "GO" button on it and beep when they're completely fucking dry!I suspect these settings are not "automatic" at all and directly correlate to the same knob position in minutes, which leads me to the frightening conclusion that some users actually had difficulty comprehending the relationship of dryer runtime to moisture removal

some people dry for a half-cycle and then hang them up to dry[Edited on December 5, 2008 at 2:27 AM. Reason : drying w/o heat uses a lot less power, but takes a lot longer]

Nice dryers have humidity sensors in them. The drier a an item gets the more likely it is to shrink, therefore you want to leave a bit of moisture in there even though it still 'feels' dry. Things like heavy cotton socks (etc) you want bone dry so they don't grow mold on 'yo feet and/or junk. Make sure that stuff is dead.
