Or, a good upconverting DVD player if it's $50 or less.

Is this a decent deal

http://dealnews.com/Samsung-Blu-ray-Player-with-8-Blu-ray-movies-from-138-free-shipping/266560.html

I have a good sized DVD collection, so a unit that does a pretty good job of upconverting to 1080p is playing a factor. However, I doubt I go back and watch all my old favorites just for the sake of it.

I know you guys are going to say just get the PS3, but I don't game and I really don't consume quite enough media to need a nice media manager - at least at this point. The biggest factor is Christmas is tight this year because of the economy, but we are going to splurge a little and go ahead and get a box that will do my 46" Panny justice.

Yes, that would be a decent deal. They're becoming more common, but any time you can get the Sony BDP-S350, Samsung BDP-1500 or the Panasonic something35K for around $150, it's a good deal for the player.

I just got the Sony player last week, and those I own no Blu-ray movies yet, it does a pretty good job of upconverting.

that was a great deal the blurays alone were worth more than 200$. nice selection too. if u're lookin for a good up conversion for super cheap hd i'd recommend scouring criagslist for an hddvd player. some of those units are still considered to have the best up conversion available. not to mention older movies are readily available in hd dvd for less than what standard dvds go for. most of them are also combo format meaning if u dumped the hd dvd in a year or so you could flip them and play them in you bluray player. or wait, if 199 is splurging for you maybe you should hold off a lil longer.

By splurging I mean this is extra shit were getting on top of all the other Christmas gifts and such that we don't have to have right now but we're getting it anyway.

I know, but the other reason I didn't mention for not getting it is I don't want to be tempted to buy games and play games on it. Too much other stuff to do with my time, like getting back in shape, maintaining the house and lawn, etc.
