Quote :
"HOUSTON -- Identical twin toddlers who may have been left home alone died in a fire at their northeast Houston home early Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston firefighters battled flames at a duplex in the 1700 block of Sam Wilson Street near Hershe Street at about midnight.

Houston police said the mother turned on two stove burners and left the house for a short period of time. She saw smoke coming from the duplex when she returned, investigators said.

Neighbors said the children's mother knocked on doors for help.

"She was trying to keep her babies warm," neighbor Chanel Yarborough said. "It be on all the time. They sleep with the stove on. That's why I don't understand what happened."

Firefighters arrived at the home about one minute after they were called because a station is just down the street.

"There was fire coming out the front window, front door of this house when they got here," District Chief Tommy Dowdy said.

Officials said they believe the toddlers were 18-month-old girls. Their names have not been released.

The mother was questioned and released without charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

The other unit of the duplex was damaged. The resident was not home at the time of the fire."

Well, the "uneducated redneck responses" didn't result in the death of two toddlers, so I'd say you're a fucking moron.

She may not have had any other source of working heat and didn't know any better. You would be amazed at the indigence and ignorance of some people.

And I have to admit that I have used my stove for heat before. When Raleigh had a bad ice storm that left us without power for a few days, we had a gas stove and would just put pots of snow on the stove to melt and boil to get a little warmth.
