Yep. It's time to go get a crap job.

I thought I'd get a real one with everything I've done (2 lab assistantships, taught 2 lab sections, worked all the way through school, club prez etc.) but I guess not.

Ok, from the ESC website I had XX for Weekly and then XX for Earnings Allowance. Do I get both of those per week, or is the first number what I get?

Earnings Allowance is what you're allowed to make per week doing another job and still qualify for Unemployment, in caseyou can find a part-time job or something

Interesting, my breakdown is:

Weekly Benefit Amount - $494.00
Earnings Allowance - $140.00

This may be a stupid question, but is the $494 a post tax sum that you get?

I was just using the estimator on the previous page, I won't be filing for another 12 weeks after severance and PTO payout is officially out.

^^^ go ahead and file now. it will ask you for a date when your PTO & Severance will be done paying out. You can estimate it, and go ahead and get all your paperwork done now so the chances of getting paid on time are better

Gah they want people with experience. I can't blame them, but it doesn't help those of us with no experience just getting into the job market.

I started full time with Verizon Wireless doing sales earlier this month. The imposed a hiring freeze right after I started due to the merger. Talk about IBTL.

haha nice, is it commission based? I'd be worried about any sort of sales job right now since no one wants to buy.

Seems those are the only jobs out there though. That and medical crap

There seems to be a lot of project management jobs if you have a PMI certification.

I'm now a part of this group this week.

Looking for temporary work to hold me over til I can find a job somewhere. Applied to Aldi yesterday which was having a "hiring fair" of sorts. Lots and lots of people there, most of whom looked really desperate. Also noticed that lots and lots of places around here aren't hiring at all for anything, and that is most unfortunate.

Best of luck to you all.

One position I have a very good shot at is hard to hear back from because it's the federal gubmint. Just have to be patient (cause they never check their emails).

Actually, just checked CL today: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ret/

They're jobs that pay money til you get something else, I highly recommend you all go out and apply to some of those.

I dunno the only way to get me not to talk about cell phones is with some duct tape.

I have been selling blackberries to unemployed people all month, by pointing out that if you get an e-mail back from a recruiter you best be answering it quickly.

I'm going to look into it. I have 6 yrs of experience in the semiconductor industry and I can't even get a call back. Of course, those 6 yrs of experience are highly specific to where I was and don't translate that well to a lot of other place. And well, when they have their pick of folks that have been dumped on the street, they are looking for the exact match and getting them with ease. Hell, I've been looking at something entry level related and in the hardware side of things, it just doesn't exist.

I'll probably go back and do some masters work in power systems/energy type of work as it seems in the near future this will be in demand as we continue to try and get smart grids and solar/wind off the ground.

My girlfriend just found out she has some kind of mortgage insurance that pays her mortgage for up to a year while she is laid off. I guess it is standard with Bank of America mortgages or something. In any case, it's worth checking into if you have a mortgage and you're laid off.

After working for eight years without a single gap in employment I have no plans to flip burgers should I get laid off. I'll take my vacation like a man.
There, I said it.

I got some stuff in the mail about that but when researching it, I found that most places require you are employed for at least 6 months before you can use it. I didn't look into it, but I also have a gut feeling that you have to pay the insurance company back for covering you, most likely with interest (on top of the premium).

Nah, you don't pay back insurance. According to the guy at the bank it is built into the cost of the loan, so it's not like you aren't paying for it whether you use it or not. He said it doesn't affect your credit or anything else.

Congrats. I have a 3rd round interview with a consulting company that isn't officially hiring because they don't have available projects. If something comes up then I'm thinking I'll get a full-time offer.

Also looking at getting into Marketing since that's what my degree is in. Have a lunch meeting sometime this week with a contact that owns a Marketing company, it's small so I don't think he'd be able to offer me something but I'm hoping he has some contacts at bigger places he could get me in touch with.

A couple other staffing agencies know of me and have my resume but nothing going on currently.

Already signed up for unemployment and direct deposit.

I just saw that Obama's Stimulus bill has already started to create jobs. A huge project to repair Highway 650 in Maryland is underway. 60 people will be hired for the project. Get ready to rebuild roads and bridges.
