The police should have a policy where they give jumpers ~5 minutes before they start shooting. That way they will get less fakers and can get back on the job.

1) Shut down the road below for 5 minutes.
2) Keep talking to the jumper.
3) Quietly get EMS/firefighters in place with one of those big trampoline things that they use for people stuck several stories up during a fire.
4) Police attempt to grab jumper.
5) Either:
A)Police grab jumper and all is well.
B)Jumper manages to jump and lands safely on the trampoline.
6) All roads reopen and everyone goes back to their jobs within a matter of minutes.
7) Profit.

This is sure to work. I can't imagine that the jumper would stretch the trampoline until they smack the ground, get catapulted halfway back up, and smack the concrete on their second bounce. In addition, nobody would get sued for this.

im sure they get a one way ticket to the new, but not so improved central mental health center in butner for a 72 hour involuntary committment (at least that long), and to add insult to injury im sure there are some fines.

and on suicide watch someone has to sit there eyes on the suicidal person for 24 hours. what a crap job that would be.

I agree with the selfishness part but I truly wonder what goes through someone's mind when they feel like they have no other choice with life. Ken and I had a friend that committed suicide exactly a month after we got married and for the longest time that shook us both down to our cores. He was the most giving and loving person that I had ever met, he was a little mentally disturbed and I could feel his sorrow from a far when we went to dinner with him that last time. His eyes were just so sad and it kills me even to this day that I did not ask more questions. I know there is nothing I could have done bc he had attempted before but what a crummy way to feel that the only way life or this world could be a bit better is if the existence of yourself was no longer evident. I can't imagine that pain.

I knew a girl that was in one of those situations one time as a patient. She said that her and two other girls were joking about it and they decided to act crazy since they were being treated that way. So they ran around the room screaming and jumping, laughing and tumbling for an hour or so until they got tired of it. She made it sound like so much fun.
