It was just announced that due to the "current economic conditions" all exempt employees' salaries were frozen except first line supervisors, although our balance sheet was "strong." So its a nice Christmas gift from my company.

Yeah, this is my third year in a row without a salary increase. Though my production bonuses have gone up, bc im working harder.

frozen except for first line craft supervisors (since i'm pretty sure you work for the same company i do). not that the distinction particularly matters if you're a peon

but yeah, hopefully they won't rescind our incentive payout come next march

How in the hell does a salesperson's pay drop 15% in 2009? It's still 2008 homey.

If I'm not getting at least a 20% raise every year it's my fault only, either I'm not working hard enough or I'm in the wrong damn field.

OMG, I got 25% bump, LOSERS! Last year I got 30%, though. This puts my annual total compensation at just over $500K. You guys must really suck.

My wife got word today that no one in her company should expect a raise. I'm just a lowly PhD student so the though of me getting a raise is laughable at best.

If you're an average white-collar worker I could see one being content with a 5-10% raise. A "salesman" predicting a 15% decrease in 2009 pay needs to look for a career in Retail or HR.

better than layoffs.

plus, did you do anything to deserve a raise? Or do you feel you should get one for sitting in your chair for a year?

for me, it's not so much about the money. i'm perfectly glad i have a job, and as a single guy, my current salary is plenty to keep me comfortable.

it's about the principle. for the most part, i'm willing to go a little further than necessary to get things done in a timely fashion. this is partly because i have a carrot dangling in front of me that says "do a good job, be a team player...we reward high performance."

if there are no merit increases, the incentive to go that extra mile is reduced, if not removed.

We got a whopping 2.5% last year, and I'm guessing it will be a big fat 0 this year (we never know until the legislature decides, and that's not usually until July/August).

Then again, in state government, 4% is a "normal" raise and 6% is big money.

we typically get 4%, which sucks but i live with it because my bonuses are nice.

agreed. my frist year at this current employer i got a 4.75 out of 5 on my overall review, but i was rewarded with only 3%. my boss told me he felt i got the shaft and that he would help me out mid year, which never happened. then the following review i had a 4.25 out of 5 and i got a 3.7% raise. still, bullshit and more would have been warranted. this year i've put in exactly no extra effort since the carrot is no longer appealing. i'm curious about what my raise will be and what my review will be.
