I don't know if guilty is the right word

It's mainly getting presents from people that you didn't get anything for

Like when you get presents from people you didn't expect to get anything from, and you kinda feel like shit for not having anything to give back

and its not just little trinket presents, its things worth several hundred

I guess the choices are to either continue to feel guilty, run out and get them something in return before Thursday, or cross regift so they all get presents given to me by someone else

what say you, wise men of the internet ?

who's buying you gifts worth a few hundred bucks that you wouldn't even consider buying a gift for? definitely makes you seem like a sob, unless the person is a creepy stalker or something.

Its not like I wouldn't even consider buying a gift for them, its just that I didn't

They're more of like "Fringe Friends" or aquaitences than someone I would consider in my gift giving circle

an acquaintance gave you a gift worth several hundred dollars?

what was the gift and what exactly is your relationship with them?

i wouldn't gift someone that i was only aquaintances with...but i would remember to talk to them about gifts before Christmas next year (maybe mention how you're broke or want everyone to save their money or something).

I wish some people wouldn't get me anything so I wouldn't feel obligated to reciprocate.

I don't plan to get anything for anyone who I'm not dating or related to by blood, but people in my girlfriend's family got me gifts last year and I was just like "uhh, thx" and now I feel like I have to get them something this year.

Well the dude I could see maybe would be thinking that

I mean I'm not gay but I've been told I give off that 'vibe'

the girl I would definitely pipe given the opportunity except she's married so I don't know her angle there

You have $300 to spend at Macy's. Go into Macy's and get both people gifts with the gift card. Spend like $50 a head and get something somewhat thoughtful. Try to conceal the fact that it actually came from Macy's though.

I'm assuming when you received the gifts you said something like "uh, I haven't done my Christmas shopping yet" or something along those lines.

Or if you have credit card rewards points, blow a bunch of those. I bet that's where the Macy's card came from.

my mom bought me a 300 dollar ipod but I cant afford to buy anyone anything this christmas. My car broke down a few days ago. I had to pay a tow truck 62 bucks to take it to a repair shop. The repair shop charged me 83 dollars just to check my car over. They told me that I needed a new engine that will cost over 2800 dollars. Sooooo, no presents for anyone this christmas. Should I feel bad?

Not at all. The people that care about you will understand and genuinely not mind. Just make them cards...It's the thought that counts. Anyone who gets uptight about you needing to be thrifty for one year isn't a very good friend or family member.

i don't know if you fall into the "have" or the "have not" category, but if you are a "have not" and the gift-givers are "haves", then maybe they did it out of generosity. or maybe that one dude just really does want you. who knows about the married chick.

but, if they gave you gifts without any previous indication of their intention to do so, then you owe them nothing but your gratitude. if it weighs on your conscience that much, the "gifts from macy's using the macy's gift card" option is they way to go.

I don't feel bad. Why? I said "Don't get me anything" "I don't really celebrate Christmas, don't worry about it". If someone buys me something thats their fault.
