why do stores put their brand on every piece of clothing they sell
and it not just branding, they put it in big letter right in the middle
as if that is what you're buying

as far as i know this started with the Tommy Hillfigure bonanza of the 90's which many of yall dont even know about

I would guess that the most obvious answer is the correct one....

why else would you put your name on everything in plain sight?
to advertise perhaps?

If they didn't they'd be forced to sell you a polo shirt for $5 instead of $75

otherwise i may not have cared

it only us common folk who allow this BS to go on

i much prefer the label to be subdued, the embroidery being the same color as the shirt.... if at all...

this is coming from a guy that mutes his flipflop's brand label as well...

When women buy a very expensive purse, have you not noticed most of them have their logo all over the bag? Most people when buying some expensive don't mind the logo being somewhere on it to prove they have the money to buy it.

people buy it because:

it's a status symbol to wear 'sean jean', 'american eagle', 'tommy hilfigure', etc...
and because it's a sign that your clothing was made with some sort of quality (hahah, supposed to be, but not really)

same reason people buy a mercedes instead of a mazda
or buy nike instead of 'cloth rag wrapped around your FOOTS

what happened to buying something cause it is well made, not to advertize that you're rich
if you look at fashion shows you will rarely see brands
also you wont see brands on suits eventhough they're the most expensive clothes

people buy brands cause they're idiots advertizing for these companies

I'm sorry, but all of your questions are going to boil down to $

create a market for something, advertise it, make people believe that they want it, and make $

actually rich people don't put big logos on everything -that is tacky.

It should be well made.

take how coach used to be-their leather products were awesome and would hold up so well!

now they are a bunch of canvas bags with Cs on them and the quality of bags have gone downhill alot.

precisely why i wear plain fucking shirts.

there isn't much in fashion that absolutely makes me cringe like shirts with, essentially, shit all over them.

and i'm not even talking about Ralph Lauren, Tommy, really. Im talkin about Ed Hardy, Billa fucking Bong, Hurley, etc. Nothing elicits "modern white trash" in my mind like that shit.

It still exists, my pair of 7s fit better, are more comfortable, and have lasted longer without falling apart than

1) A pair of Old Navy jeans (which died first)
2) A pair of Express jeans (which have managed ok but aren't as comfortable)
3) And a pair of Banana Republic jeans

This conversation comes up a lot. I'm not a fan of labels either. I like nice stuff, but I usually buy the stuff that doesn't have a logo on it. If you know the brand well enough to recognize my bag without the logo then that's awesome. If not, that's great too. Usually the items without the logo plastered all over the place are made better anyways.

LOL

I get almost all of my clothes at Costco now... They have some stuff with labels at times but I don't buy it. I'm rocking an "American Essentials" fleece right now and Lucky Jeans that were $38.00. Even have on my Kirkland socks.
