2000 ford excursion, not that it really matters. i have a small chip in a windshield that has the first little signs of starting to spiderweb. anyone know anything about or have any experience with those DIY repair kits to stop it from growing? opinions on a certain brand or anything? not really interested in paying for a professional service, might as well just get a new windshield at that point. 12/24/2008 5:17:51 PM |

i've used whatever is sold at autozone. they had two options and i went with the one that cost a buck or two more. It seems to have worked, its been about 6 months and nothing has grown. i had a small chip and a few cracks coming out of it maybe a half inch to an inch long. you can barely see the blemish now, worked great.
ive also had a professional come out for another truck. i cant remember what it cost, but they basically just did a more complex version of the same thing the kit does. 12/24/2008 8:29:42 PM |

^^maybe with comprehensive insurance, but i'd be pretty damn impressed if it's only $30 otherwise. this is on a liability+extra umi only vehicle. i've got a pretty damn good idea of what it costs to operate a service vehicle, and $30 hardly covers just the fuel and wear on the vehicle. especially when gas was so high. even if that's the case, it's still about $25 more than i care to spend on repairing it at the moment. a steak dinner sounds better.
^word, yeah let me know. or if he's just got some good advice on the stuff you can get from parts stores. could be a waste of time. i had another vehicle that some previous owner had done a cheap repair on and the spot never got any bigger. that's about the only reason i'm even bothering to ask.
