See I hate this, as a technology I fundamentally prefer cable to satellite

but shit like this just keeps happening and I'm getting tired of it.

shit, I'm waiting on fox/nbc/abc in hd out here with Charter, though that isn't them causing the problems but the parent companies of said stations not wanting to broadcast it down here without higher fees than necessary (since charter would have to broadcast them unencrypted and for free).

At least you guys have a lot more HD premium channels as well.

I hate TWC as much as the rest of you

But it sounds like your anger needs to be directed at Viacom in this situation

wake me up when Chapelle's show is back on, and VH1 isn't doing another balls rapingly painful Guns N Roses backstory.

battle of the monopolistic ogligarchs TimeWarner v. Viacom fight!

As much shit as I love giving TimeWarner Cable i'll give them credit

Quote :
"Basically we're trying to hold the line for our customer."

This is a first....
Nonetheless i think cable is greatly overpriced. I would just assume drop to basic if my two stoner roommate would be cool (unlikely). The price of cable will never go down to what i consider a reasonable level while lazy people continue to see TV as a necessity instead of a luxury. My buddy who says TWC says customers come in all the time trying to pay the bill with their welfare check.

"Viacom said the increases would cost an extra 23 cents a month per subscriber _ which works out to $35.9 million more in total. It said that Americans spend a fifth of their TV time watching Viacom shows but its fees make up less than 2.5 percent of the Time Warner cable bill.

"We make this request because Time Warner Cable has so greatly undervalued our channels for so long," it said.

"Ultimately, however, if Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and the rest of our programming is discontinued _ over less than a penny per day _ we believe viewers will see this behavior by their cable company as outrageous," it said."

sounds like it is more like TWC being assholes.

isn't time warner raising their monthly prices anyway this month by about 3-5 dollars per package? WTF? how are you gonna do that and then try to say that you are looking out for the customer by "holding your ground" and not succumbing to a <50cent increase

The only channel I care about in this deal is comedy central. I wish they'd just let us pay for the channels we want. I only watch like 8 channels out of the 100s in the digital package.

When AT&T U-Verse gets to the triangle, TWC will be out of business. They got a better lineup at a much cheaper rate. The NFL Network is on there for those interested.

It's not really an "is better than" type deal.

Chances are you can only get one or the other.

i don't know if anyone in this thread knows this or not but here's a bit of insider information...

TWC isn't going anywhere, their service isn't just limited to RDU and U-VERSE or you canceling with TWC isn't going to have any impact at all. Save your bitching and buy AppleTV.

I won't be canceling to make a point or anything, I have worked for enough large corporations to know that they won't give a fuck.

It just would be pointless to pay as much as I am for something I would hardly use.

if these people are willing to change their service to keep the channels being listed, then it sounds like viacom has a right to demand an increase

do they need 22-36%, probably not - those could just be a negotiation starting point
