welp, I don't know what else to tell you besides 'that's a matter of opinion'

but YOUR government has sentenced and punished Vick. They have said what is enough. Who in the hell are you to turn around and wish further punishment?

America would be an even more fucked up place without some sort of structure to punishment, i.e., "John, we know you've served your time and we said we would let you out. But Billy Bob thinks you should be shot as well. Sorry Buddy...."

You don't see how stupid that sounds?

Dog fighting is really fucked up, and Mike Vick was a fucking IDIOT for what he did...

I seriously doubt he'll make any more of those types of stupid mistakes again after all he's just been through though. That's just my opinion though, which doesn't mean too much since I don't have any fancy letters after my name yet.

What does any of this have to do with disagreeing on a form of punishment? Since when do we give up our right to have an opinion when we cast a vote?

There's nothing I'd like more for Michael Vick than for him to be murdered or killed by dogs.
In fact, if I had only a month to live, I might just go try to kill the motherfucker myself. Also, I might just try to take out a bunch of you assholes that say stuff like "they're just dogs", "animals are subordinate", and "its not like he killed anyone."

Fortunately for you all, I'm in perfect health

That was in response to his claim that "it's not his govt."
Yeah....believe it or not, by votingm obeying laws, etc.... you are, in fact, participating in the government system.
No one is saying the laws are perfect.
But you dumbasses seem to love the laws when they work in your favor, but want some crude, self fitting, form of vigilante "justice" when things don't go the way you want.

Now the purpose of punishment is to remove a threat, possibly set an example, and to reform.
The threat of Vick has been removed, and example has been made out of him, and I'm betting he's not going to make that stupid mistake again.
But no.....that's not good enough.....some of you want shank him, or kill him yourselves

The legal system isn't a system of morals, but rather a system of principles and compromises. Generally, every individual has a specific set of morals, and they get that set from a source outside of the legal system (a particular philosophy or another, a god or group of gods, logical deductions, their family, etc.) Suggesting that people should ignore this personal source of morality whenever it differs from the current authority's prescription, and instead place "allegiance" to imposed, temporary, or arbitrary systems of governmental law and justice, is not only wrong, it is disgusting. Just listen to yourself:

I sincerely hope that you get caught doing something wrong. But instead of the legal system punishing you in a uniform (and hopefully fair) way, I wish that some random fucknut with homemade knife that strongly disagrees with you, is allowed to do whatever the hell he wants with you.

Let me just answer that one at a time.

do you vote?: Yes, fat lot of good it does in most cases.

do you trust the govt. to punish people? HELL NO. Adequate punishment in this country is as rare as fucking bigfoot. It is at such an abysmal level that should anyone ever harm a member of my family in any way they will pay dearly for it and it won't be coming from the government.

abide by laws? For the most part. The ones that I feel are just, I obey completely. Those that seem arbitrary and unimportant, ie speed limits, I generally do not unless it is in my interest at that moment to do so.

Now let me ask you a couple of questions.

Who the hell are you to tell people what their opinions on anything are or should be?

If someone you know got raped or murdered or in the vein of this thread if one of your pets was maimed purposely by someone else and they got a slap on the wrist, would you not find it outrageous? Or would you say, oh well, that $25 fine was just, the government said so?

its just all bias.. obviously you'll care more if someone you cared about got hurt/killed, but you can't expect other people to share in your emotion. some people like dogs more than anything, some people don't care as much. every argument about this topic will come from difference of opinion so therefore no mutual agreement will EVER be reached on a justifiable punishment.

never said that people can't have their opinions. not once.

I AM saying how hypocritical, and unfair some people's opinions are.

I do agree with Will when he said the legal system is not judging on morality.....
So I don't understand why people would want to impose their morals instead of laws on Vick while we're all operating within the the legal system?

to answer your second question....

well, that's a bit silly. I would never live in a country where someone could be convicted of murdering someone I know, and get a slap on the wrist...
But I guess if I were retarded, and did choose to stay in a country where the legal system allowed that to happen.....I would probably blame myself for living there.

Exactly. So some people in here need to stop telling others what their opinions should be.

You're telling someone what their opinion should be right there. You're also implying that the government doles out appropriate punishments by and large, which is just laughable.

^ OK, OJ you've never seen anybody walk on a murder charge.

no. that's me questioning someone's opinion.

me telling someone what their opinion should be would look a lot like this:

"you opinion should be......."

and I have said multiple times that the government isn't right all the time. they're not perfect. They are more uniform in punishment than random citizens that they they know best.

wow, I learned something new today. getting CONVICTED or murder = walking on a murder charge

Micheal Vick will continue with the apologies and the protests will die down.

In the mean time, he'll be a cheap pick up for any team struggling at QB. The fact that the patriots are going to franchise Cassel, and Warner, Favre, and Collins all have 1 foot out the door, makes Vick's stock go up a little more.

If you guys don't think Vick will make several huge apologies, and donate some money (which he doesnt have atm), and then sign on to a struggling team, you're fooling yourselves.

The NFL doesn't exactly have a high standard for socially moral players. Whether it's dog fighting, spousal abuse, assault, or even murder accusations.

because I'm opposed to shanking someone in prison while they're repaying a debt. to society

and can see the benefit of uniform and controlled punishment as opposed to vigilanties avenging whatever ticks them off

look, I never said the legal system was perfect. But it's the lesser of two evils if the other option involves a random crazy getting pissed at you ans stabbing you.
