Go to this guy's house:

Fremont, N.C. — Wayne County animal control officials are investigating what they call "the most horrific, disturbing case" of animal cruelty they have ever seen.

Charges are being brought against a Wayne County man living in the Fremont area, they said. Authorities did not release the man's name or address, however.

Animal Control Director Justin Scally said he went to the man's house after receiving a complaint.

There, Scally and another animal control officer found dismembered animals, a machete, knives, bowls of blood and what appeared to be a decapitated puppy’s head in a zip-lock bag.

Investigators removed 26 living animals from the home.

“It was the most horrific, disturbing case that I have ever investigated,” Scally said. “What we saw I don’t think I will ever forget for the rest of my life."

When officers arrived, they also found a dying goat in a field.

Scally and another officer then loaded the goat, which was unable to move or even lift its head, onto a board, carried it out of the field and rushed it to a local veterinarian’s office.

They were able to save the goat’s life.

“Some of the animals were being burned on what appeared to be a home-made grill of sorts,” Scally said.

Investigators found the remains of a decapitated dog with its front paws cut off, dead snakes, a dead turtle, dead puppies and what appeared to be a goat’s head on the grill.

Other items were unidentifiable. Investigators also found the remains of several predatory birds, such as owls, on the property.

The case remains under investigation, according to officials, and more charges are possible.

In another case, authorities arrested a Goldsboro man after he strangled and beat his dog in front of a school bus full of children. Investigators rescued the dog, which survived.

The suspect, 47-year-old Donald Hatem of the 200 block of Scott Street, will face felony charges of animal cruelty, according to Scally.

Oops, missed that little line.

And I was only pissed with what I believed was WRAL making another mistake because they don't bother to read and/or fact check their stories, not the content of the story. If you had to deal with the pushy idiots at their news desk every day at work you would have done it too.

and what is with the thread title? PETA is too busy worrying about who's wearing fur and trying to get rid of all domestic animals to really care about something like this.

Sorry, but you see, you're an idiot. The very assumption that you're basing your argument on, namely that humans are "higher up" than animals, carries the very same implication that you oppose. What you seem to forget is the fact that humans are animals, too. Therefore, if you understand that human animals are "higher up" than non-human animals, why can't you understand how canine animals could be "higher up" than bovine animals? (Sorry to completely destroy your argument. Better luck next time.)

In a nutshell: If animals were on the same level as humans, they would have rights, and live under the constitution of the United States. Does an animal get a due process if it kills a baby, or is it just euthanized? Not really hard concept once you think about it. I am not trying justify this man's actions, but people who thinks animals are on the same level as humans are insane and ridiculous. And furthermore, if you eat meat you encourage murder, because killing is killing no matter what's its for according to you all's standards.

If he was eating them or was preforming rituals within an acceptable spectrum, nothing can be said about this man that makes this story sick.

Are you talking to me? Because I never said that "animals are on the same level as humans". Who said that in this thread? No, really, who?

I'm a vegetarian. However, I'm not a freak about it. I wont bitch about people eating meat or get mad if they eat meat at a meal with me or anything on that level. It's just a personal choice of mine. I also have no beef (pun intended) with killing animals for consumption purposes. However, there are also humane versus inhumane ways of killing an animal to eat. Dismembering it before death, chopping its head and front paws off, and injuring/not feeding it and leaving it in a field to die are not acceptable ways to kill an animal for consumption purposes. Also, this is one way that serial killers begin. Some "practice" on animals before moving on to humans. You really have no idea what kind of psychopath this guy may be.

I don't see what's inhumane about cutting an animal's head off.

That seems like a pretty humane form of killing.

Both those depend on culture.

No. There is a difference in killing for food and killing just to kill (murdering a fellow human or decapitating a puppy)

How do you not understand? Humans are in the animal kingdom. We are primates. Humans, most will agree, are on the top of the "pecking order". Domesticated dogs and cats, apes, horses are just below humans, while cows, pigs, and chickens are nearer to the middle. Bugs, fish, etc. are generally put at the bottom of the "pecking order". You see, either humans and all other animals are equal (no), or they're not all equal. But suggesting that the lives of all non-human animals have the same value while only human life is valued more, doesn't make sense.... That notion is just anthropocentric hogwash.

PETA can eat a dick. I'd be more appalled by mankind's treatment of itself than of other creatures.

Good point.
After all, PETA stands for "people for the ethical treatment of animals," and humans are animals, too.

^ But what do they protest as a group? I have never seen an active PETA presence as such protesting anything but meat, circuses, fur, or drug testing.

Let these motherfuckers issue one of their dumbass press release/propaganda pieces about warfare, genocide, or the tragic deaths of millions to diseases that could be cured through the drug tests they protest.

And fuck your ludicrous implication of the tragedy that is anthropocentrism. People have done a hell of a lot more for me lately than any other species, and until that changes, I'll remain anthropocentric.

oh, and
Quote :
"PETA stands for ... and humans are animals too"

Thanks for that. So... "Animals for the Ethical Treatment of Animals," right? Should we charge the founders of PETA with anthropocentrism? Does the name itself not make a distinction between human beings and other species, as well as imply that human beings are in some way able to make a conscious decision as to how others should be treated?

Thus my original point: mankind's treatment of itself should be of greater concern.
