Aside from canceling the class completely, what would you have liked to see in your E101 class? Liked or didn't like?
1/6/2009 6:24:52 PM
I'm still an advocate that one of the build projects should be catching a campus squirrel without killing it.
1/6/2009 6:26:01 PM
I don't like this thread. I'm sure that isn't an acceptable answer for you, but I don't care.
1/6/2009 6:26:05 PM
Why change anything? It is a guaranteed A if you are competent enough to breath. Leave it how it is to boost freshmen self esteem.
1/6/2009 6:27:16 PM
I didn't like being assigned to a group and be stuck with them for the whole semester. I want to be able to pick my own group and have the option of ditching them if they suck.
1/6/2009 6:28:50 PM
^ thats actually one of the good things, teaches you about working in a group in a corperate environ. Any of you fail, you all are screwed.Project ideas could be better. I like wwwebsurfers idea
1/6/2009 6:30:35 PM
i thought it was a pretty silly class. when i did go, i usually spent the entire time posting on here.
1/6/2009 6:41:46 PM
^^^ yeah, i think we all would have chosen our own groups. by the end of the semester, i was the only person in my group who still planned on doing engineering. one guy was dropping out to get married, another switched to design, and another to education.
1/6/2009 6:51:08 PM
HOLY FUCKING SHIT STUDY HALL GOD DAMMIT
1/6/2009 6:57:56 PM
i fucking hated that classall bottomley did was talk about how she saved the world using her engineering skillsand LOL at this biography. she looks like a man http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs_iportals/iportals/education/setf/tutorials/domain/power/bio-lb.pdf

replace it with something useful.
1/6/2009 7:08:16 PM
i did most of the work, but i got the most out of it--so i figure it was a fair deal[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 7:16 PM. Reason : i had ginger]
1/6/2009 7:13:23 PM
^^^ at least Dr. Bottomley speaks EnglishI had some crazy Russian nuclear professor for my E101the TA had to stay five minutes after every class to translate what the fuck he was telling us to do for homework, etc[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 7:16 PM. Reason : dude had a serious accent, way worse than any other engineering professor I've had since]
1/6/2009 7:13:31 PM
1/6/2009 8:01:16 PM
I'd rather have a CHE 101 than an E 101 if it's going to be information about the major. just sayin
1/6/2009 8:27:24 PM
I never took E101... I dont think. What did they teach in that class? was it just about how to use the EOS computing system?
1/6/2009 8:30:59 PM
The fact that they pushed that class on me like crack regardless of what college I went into.
1/6/2009 8:59:21 PM
^^it's an introduction to different engineering disciplines and a design project
1/6/2009 9:06:20 PM
hated everything.. you dont learn in this class, just do a lot of teamworkbut im not in engineering anymore, so my opinion probably doesnt mean shitttttttt
1/6/2009 9:06:38 PM
1/6/2009 9:08:07 PM
make it a 3 hour class, because that project was a lot of work for 1 hour (at least for our group, but we actually cared about it)
1/6/2009 9:13:39 PM
somehow i missed that class.. maybe cause i transferred in as a sophomore?
1/6/2009 9:15:42 PM
^^that is the worst thing they can do. the useful material from that class can be covered in 1 hour. for MEs, they cover it at every group advising anyway.[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 9:17 PM. Reason : one single hour, not one hour per week]
1/6/2009 9:16:42 PM
1/6/2009 9:19:04 PM
^ oh, THATS what i took. E115 was a joke.E101 wasn't required when i started.
1/6/2009 9:21:19 PM
^^^ talking about credit weight, not amount of time[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 9:22 PM. Reason : .\]
1/6/2009 9:21:51 PM
they only make it 3 hr credit if you meet 3 hrs per week[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 9:22 PM. Reason : i suggest they teach things like this in the class lol]
1/6/2009 9:22:39 PM
E101 took more time than most 3 hour classes I was taking.. def should have gotten more credit for it than 1 hour
1/6/2009 9:22:47 PM
i think it was called e497f when i took it
1/6/2009 9:32:29 PM
dang which project did all of you guys do? I did the bottle rocket (although I tried unsuccessfully to sway the guys in our group to do the bubble blowing machine) and it really didnt take THAT much work...
1/6/2009 9:33:08 PM
i can't remember what one my roommate did but i know theirs was found to be "unsafe" and they were basically kicked out of the little bullshit competition thing. they used a windshield wiper motor to move something faster than anybody else had by like 20x.. can't remember the details though, gah[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 9:35 PM. Reason : it was basically a flying projectile at the speeds they had it moving.. was funny at the time]
1/6/2009 9:35:11 PM
damn near put someone's eye out, didn't they
1/6/2009 9:36:18 PM
i dont even remember that classof course it was a long time ago and i need to get off this website
1/6/2009 9:36:34 PM
1/6/2009 9:42:24 PM
we didn't get to choose. that weinberg asshole made the whole class do the rube goldberg machine. looking back, i appreciate that because it was so damn easy. we made is so simple that a 3rd grader could've come up with it. it worked flawlessly every time and we got 2nd place lol
1/6/2009 9:46:27 PM
lol, what is with that biography dr. joenumbers posted?
1/6/2009 10:15:51 PM
the main thing I remember from that class was a sexist pig.to change it - require anybody who is a shithole to get punched by anyone they offended.
1/6/2009 10:31:23 PM
who the fuck knows, I took that shit 8 years ago
1/6/2009 10:32:57 PM
that's what I'm screamin'
1/6/2009 10:33:20 PM
A quota that makes the class 90% female. Also, a quota that makes my dorm room 90% female.
1/6/2009 10:46:17 PM
ho quota
1/6/2009 10:47:07 PM
Honestly first of all E115 should be for a grade and E101 be for credit only. You don't really do any work in E101 it was the only A I got that semester. Instead of having to goto the different presentations from the different disciplines have them come into the class. There were several I wanted to goto but could not due to time conflicts. Its been 4.5 years since I took it so that might have been changed but if not thats the other main thing.
1/6/2009 11:33:49 PM
Lol, we didn't do any work in E115 either.
1/6/2009 11:54:57 PM
is that like e115 i think i took both (^and V) on a saturday morning in the form of one quick testsame thing for m200, the ms office version of e115 for BUS majors]
1/6/2009 11:57:11 PM
E101 was awesome; wouldn't change a thing.

E115:Non-computer-literate and computer-normal people would actually learn some somewhat useful stuff. Not a bad class all in all, and easy for someone who already knows 90% of what was being taught. Boring as shit, but what introductory isn't?E101:Virtually useless unless you're just THAT astoundingly bad at collaborating with others. Basically we'd "learn" from this little handbook of regulations and who in the department to see if you needed things, as though such a thing merits an entire class period. After that we'd either do some middle-school level civil-engineering-esque project ("use these straws and pipe cleaners to make the biggest tower you can") or class would just get dismissed early... Or we'd all just sit around doing jack shit until the teacher realized not even he wanted to be there.I guess the only good thing about it is a mini-kick in the teeth about how in engineering you have to design things with others and actually put in some out-of-class organization and effort, and how you need to start early. Even this was something of a joke, though, because even if some group's project was obviously put together in the last half-week of time and only barely functioned, they would still get a decent grade. Again, like the handbook-of-regulations-and-references we learned in class, it really doesn't merit its own course, as anyone with half an ounce of common sense and the little engineering handbook in their possession could easily have learned everything the class had to offer in a matter of hours.
