So, I forgot to call the Transportation office today to ask about the parking permits for Centennial Campus. I was trying to wait for my grants to come in, but as of now, my bank account shows nothing I have to drive an hour and a half to campus (I've never taken classes on Centennial because I took everything through DE and now I'm out of DE classes to take) and I don't know if I'll have enough time to drop by Transportation in the morning so I figured I could snag a Visitor parking pass. I do know I need to park at the Partners Way Deck for EBII (where all of my classes are) but I'm unsure of what parking pass I would need to get, a C? I noticed in the parking map that that deck only allows C, DC and DD and DC and DD aren't available. I feel like a freshman.. lol.

Do you just need to park on centennial? How early are you getting to campus? If you're getting there fairly early you can park on sections of varsity drive w/o a permit. I used to park there for a 9am class and didn't have any problems (I can't remember if this was before EBII opened or not though, so you may need to get there earlier)You can also park on some of the other side streets and ride the bus the rest of the way.Oh and if you do want a permit...you definitely need C, DC, or DD for the centennial deck. But there is a massive parking lot for centennial that I feel like they should still have permits for (shits never close to full). I just can't remember what permit it is, E maybe?[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 12:46 AM. Reason : .]

I guess I don't have to park on Centennial, but all of my classes are in EBII. I have class from 9:35-10:25, 12:50-2:05 and 2:20-3:35. I plan to leave my home around 7:30, which with 30 mins sitting on I-40, I figured I'd be there around 9:30 or so. I guess I really need to leave around 7:00.Considering I've never had a parking permit, I'm just trying to figure it out. When I went to purchase the permit today online, I figured I needed an EC for Centennial because thats the only option I was given that fit, but then it stated that it would take 2 business days to process, so I figured I'd wait until tomorrow to get it while on campus. http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/trans/maps/download/08-09StudentParkingZones.pdfThis is the map I was going by, and considering I've never even been on Centennial, I didn't see any pay lots on the map, nor do I know where they are. I just see that you can get a visitor pass for $2 and theres a few private decks?[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 12:49 AM. Reason : ]

I'm pretty sure they only check the parking deck at lunch time. Doesn't look like that helps you though
1/7/2009 12:54:18 AM
Personally, I'd wait on buying the permit and just park in one of the higher levels of the deck or the back of the EC lot. You may never get a ticket and your first one will just be a warning anyway (after that you could buy the permit or scope a good spot to park on the streets near a bus stop). Might save you some $$.

get an EC permitit's good for the fringe lots that face centennial pkwy in front of eb1they're cheap, they have plenty of permits, and the lot is not very far away, if you're really lazy you can take the southeast loop to the eb's or textiles]

^^Well, that was for a semester or two ago. I know people who were able to park on the centennial deck from the morning until before lunch and then after lunch till late without getting a ticket all semester. One person had their car their all day and got a warning ticket timed at like, 12 or something.Didn't hear what the word on the street was for last semester.I second getting an EC permit. Its like a 5-10 minute walk, but better than parking on Varsity. Plus there's a bus that goes from Centennial to that parking lot.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:07 AM. Reason : lkj]

Would it be possible to get a Visitor's pass on the days I'm in class and just park in a Visitor's lot? I just feel like I'd have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to be ready, leave in time to get through traffic and then park and walk or have to wait for a bus. Plus, I just had spinal surgery last month, and putting that much stress on my back this early would honestly kill me and I doubt I could sit through one class if my back is in that much pain.
1/7/2009 1:23:49 AM
if you're a student, you're not supposed to get or use visitor passes
1/7/2009 1:32:51 AM
Just park in the woods across the street.
1/7/2009 1:34:33 AM
^^ didn't know that, I had been using visitor passes when I came on campus before, oops^ that doesn't sound very safe...

My best suggestion is to park in one of the lots on Centennial tomorrow and hope for a warning. Then go get a permit after class.

Can't get a handicap placard, my doctor won't approve it since he says this is just a temporary inconvenience. I do have my husband's though, but I thought you had to be registered as handicap to park in a handicap spot, ie. Handicap permit??I plan on trying to get a permit in the morning if I leave early enough, just trying to figure out my options. I could do the EC, I see where Rt 3 comes through or I could just see how far of a walk it is and see if I can deal with it. It shouldn't be too bad, I just don't wait to end up being in pain, as I don't take pain meds.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:46 AM. Reason : ]

^ Technically yes but nobody is going to tell you you're not gimpy enough to have the placard in your car.Why don't you just park at the fairgrounds and take the bus into Centennial?[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:48 AM. Reason : .]

fuck, thanks for reminding me, i need to look into getting a permit tomorrow. West lot again would be fine with me
1/7/2009 1:50:42 AM
Is that the Park and Ride on Trinity? Does that fill up quickly? That would work also.
1/7/2009 1:50:43 AM
I guess? It's the same lot that people park in for the stadium. There's also another park and ride at the K-Mart on Western. Or at least they're used to be.As far as it filling up, I've never seen it happen.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:56 AM. Reason : .]
1/7/2009 1:56:27 AM
That park and ride closed years ago.
1/7/2009 1:56:58 AM
Yeah when I was a student they would go back and forth on closing that K-Mart one. It's not like K-mart is using the parking lot

Ahh, didn't know. When I lived on campus, Fall 05, I lived over at the ES King Village and parked at a friend's house, but considering they no longer live in the area, it doesn't work that way. I feel kinda lost, as I've never been on Centennial and its been over 3 years since I've taken a class on campus. I didn't even pay attention to campus when I lived at ESKV, as I only stayed there 3 days a week and went back home the rest of the time. Thats why I know nothing about campus. The only bus I ever took was the Varsity bus and I don't even know the names of the other bus routes, since Varsity took me to campus and back to ESKV. I don't even think EBII was built back then, so I wouldn't have a clue about parking over there.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 2:06 AM. Reason : ]

For your first day, parking in the deck would get you a warning ticket. Assuming they don't go all parking nazi and have a guard, of course. I would park in the centennial deck and get the permit/classes done. You also shouldn't have any trouble getting a visitor permit the first time, although I thought the visitor deck place was at Partners 4 or w/e. Maybe you could get a visitor permit for the Centennial Deck? Just say you have an appointment in EBII, that worked for me in the past to get in the Partners deck. Although, I did actually have an appointment Additionally, you can park in the pay portion of the Reynolds deck on Main Campus (its like 6 dollars or something) and then ride the Centennial Bus from Carmichael. That route is relatively short and runs every 15 minutes.I can draw some circles on the parking zone map if you need it, lol[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 2:08 AM. Reason : lkj]

No need for drawings, hehe. If I can make it to the office in time in the morning (I've never driven in traffic on 40 early in the morning either, so I'm worried I'm gonna have to get up even earlier) then I'll get an EC permit. I tried to get one earlier today online and I know they had 120+ left. There wouldn't be a problem walking to the bus stop for Rt 3, then getting off at EBII. If I don't get there early enough, I'll just stop and say I have an appt for my 1st class, then get the permit during my 2.5 hr lunch break. Thanks for everyones help. I'd be completely lost today if I hadn't asked.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 2:19 AM. Reason : ]

North Roxboro, coming through Durham down 147S to I-40E, then taking Wade Ave exit - usually takes me an hour and 15 mins to get to NCSU during the middle of the day, an hour and a half to an hour 45 mins during heavy traffic in the afternoon.I did realize that I read the maps wrong and Rt 3 doesn't stop where I thought it did, but the dots on the map were time points, now to rethink this.Maybe I'm missing something, but on this map it shows only 4 dots for stops for Rt 3, but the list below it has 5 stops, one on Oval drive, so I figured there would be one around the EBII building? So is there no stop near the EBII building at all?http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/trans/transportation/wolfline/images/Spring/Sp09_3-8-11.pdf[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 3:00 AM. Reason : ]

Bus stops and time points are one in the same. There is a stop for Rt 3 right in front of EBII on Oval Drive:http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=35.772709,-78.672726&spn=0.002973,0.006866&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=35.772168,-78.673651&panoid=_N8r1xs2DaV9fjs79uUrSg&cbp=12,191.74890498090042,,0,11.496761563279518

C permits are for employees, you're not going to get oneGet a visitor pass for your first day (if they ask if you are a student or work here say no), it'll let you park more-or-less anywhere on centennial.Head over to the transportation office on that day and talk to them in person - at the very least you can get a permit immediately
1/7/2009 7:56:58 AM
^ thats where being a full time employee and a student was great, i could park wherever the hell i wanted to, and a C permit is only about $15 a month
1/7/2009 8:00:20 AM
your doctor is just being a dickyou can get a temporary handicap placard, they are red instead of blue and i think only good for a maximum of 60 daysthe park and ride at westgrove was open last time i checked (the one near kmart) and so is the one at carter-finley
1/7/2009 9:08:51 AM
^ park and ride is good, but only if you're going to main campus. You would have to catch a second bus over to Centennial.
1/7/2009 9:15:38 AM
I stopped by Transportation this morning and they told me to get an EC permit online and I could pick it up in 2 days. I didn't realize that you had to pay online, but at least they let me print out a temp permit. Its really not that long of a walk from the EC lot to EBII. From the maps, I figured it was a lot longer.
