So I just got a new LCD monitor with DVI-D (Finally got rid of my tank of a CRT). From my understanding using a DVI cable will result in a much better picture, but the problem I have is I'm not 100% on what type of cable I need. I've tried googling and I'm just confusing myself with all the different types - would prefer if someone tech savvy on here would just help me out and tell me if its worth it to buy one. I have a Radeon x800, which from what I can tell has a DVI-I dual link connector. Thats what I gathered from http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html but I wasn't sure if I was correct. It has a connection that looks like this one but flipped. :

yes, it's a DVI-I connector
how big is your monitor?
you'll need a dual link cable for really high resolutions, but in most cases a single link cable is fine.

Most DVI-D connections that I've delt with can handle a DVI-I plug.
Depending on the DVI-I plug you have here is one for the dual link style: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10209&cs_id=1020904&p_id=614&seq=1&format=1#largeimage
Ok yeah totally read that backwards... ^what he said. Time for coffee

shit son you don't even need DVI-I
DVI-I carries both the analog and digital components of the signal
DVI-D will do just fine1/7/2009 7:03:23 PM |
