first the xmas dinner ($5000) became xmas luncheon ($650) which was understandable. There were no xmas bonuses ($200 each) which was also understandable. now they've quit providing the hot chocolate and tea for us in the breakroom and are also no longer providing us with lunch (subs) during our quarterly reviews. They've canceled our newspaper subscription as well. with all of these cutbacks i'm thinking employees will be next.

1/9/2009 11:24:54 AM
my company executive committee gave us all a sob story about our low raises and bonuses (even though they were about what they normally give us every year)....yet gave the new boss $30,000 to buy a new car[Edited on January 9, 2009 at 11:27 AM. Reason : forgot the new part]

Haha...they can't take our perks away where I work!Oh wait, that's because there were none in the first place. (In all serious the benefits here are pretty nice...but we don't get shit like bonuses, free drinks, etc)
1/9/2009 11:43:19 AM
I went from having my own john to having share one with 4 other peoplenot cool
1/9/2009 11:44:48 AM
we did just get a drastically better insurance plan for less moneythe company pays for that so the boss is going to negotiate that into raises for '10
1/9/2009 11:45:58 AM
That's pretty bad, sounds like the axe is about to swing for the bottom 10% of personnel. If I were you, I'd work harder and be more visible.
1/9/2009 11:47:12 AM

1/9/2009 11:47:17 AM

at our christmas dinner the GM made a speech on how the economy was bad and that we were gonna try to get through it, etc etc etcright after he said that a coworker told me that pretty much meant not to expect a raise or bonus[Edited on January 9, 2009 at 1:32 PM. Reason : we are cutting back on some things too]
1/9/2009 1:30:50 PM
We have a vending company come in and supply us with coffee, creamer, sugar, etcAs long as we use their services, we can use their commercial coffee machine freeBut if we bought the coffee and sugar at Sam's Club, we would save $150/month. And that would cover the cost of having to buy our own coffee maker. We can get the exact same make and model at Office Max for $399. It would pay for itself w/in 3 months
1/9/2009 1:37:51 PM
^we do the same thing. They just started to figure out that if we bought our own creamer and stuff, we'd save money. The coffee machine was bought in the beginning, but they're saving lots o money on the creamers.

NCSU couldn't hire me as a TA for fisheries science because the Zoology Dept is apparently low on moolah. Sucks. Now I have to TA MEA 100L
1/9/2009 2:05:56 PM
duke had a expensive, nice, off-site, catered xmas party with open bar my first winter here.the second had a partially catered pot-luck style lunch/dinner in a newly opened office space.the third consisted of 3 2-liters of soda, oreos, mixed nuts, trailmix, and some left over candy over the course of 3 days....
1/9/2009 2:24:48 PM
what are these cutbacks you people speak of?
1/9/2009 2:47:56 PM
SAS doesn't have cutbacks, they just pay their people 20% less out of the gate.
1/9/2009 2:48:38 PM
nah, our salaries are pretty damn competitive. and you can't beat 100% healthcare coverage.
1/9/2009 2:57:18 PM
evan get me a job at sas.i don't care what it is. i'll be there monday. thanks.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

1/9/2009 2:59:23 PM
we don't even pay monthly... 100% as in 100% of the premiums are covered.plus we have an awesome on-site health care center.there have been talks about them starting to charge us a little for it each month but i haven't heard anything else about that...]
1/9/2009 3:00:12 PM

1/9/2009 3:00:18 PM

1/9/2009 3:00:38 PM
I dunno man, what do you think is competitive? I know a software developer and a sales guy that work there, and neither are pulling in that much.
1/9/2009 3:01:06 PM
so you get free total health insurance?^well they have to pay for the health insurance somehow... personally i'd rather pay a little for it and get paid more...[Edited on January 9, 2009 at 3:01 PM. Reason : e]

My medical is completely covered, but I pay for dental. In retrospect, I'll dice the dental plan and just increase my flexable spending account desposits for any dental work. I've got the same healthcare benefits as a firefighter.
1/9/2009 3:03:56 PM
p.s. here you go, big business:
1/9/2009 3:05:17 PM
My company tooInstead of having out Christmas Ball at the Ritz, we had it at the fuckin Hyatt this year

1/9/2009 3:08:37 PM
Actually, I used to work for Allscripts, and I know that SAS uses that medical records system. I work for ETI, so we work with CAD systems like OSSI and Tritech.^ Lower than what I make for sure. I mean I guess they could be lying to me about their salaries, but what would be the motive? lol[Edited on January 9, 2009 at 3:13 PM. Reason : -]
1/9/2009 3:10:28 PM
ah, thank god. i was gonna have to choke a bitch if you were behind that. i wish we used visual fire/visual EMS... so much better than fucking motorola premier CAD]
1/9/2009 3:13:13 PM
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Motorola, but we have to work with them.
1/9/2009 3:15:46 PM
thats it? you should try being a project engineer that suddenly has 16 million in capital instead of 38 million and are still expected to make shit happen
1/9/2009 3:35:58 PM
