i remember when i was maybe 5 years old and my mom smoked and i made her quit through guilt trips and i actually used the sentence "you love cigarettes more than me" when i wanted her to play with me instead of smoke.

so i wonder if the people who post constantly on here with kids will hear that from their child......because some of you parents post a lot

boobs!

I mean, I wanted my parents to quit when I was 5 years old, but that's because I didn't want them to die, not because they were too busy smoking all the time.

I stopped trying after I got the shit beat out of me for throwing my Dad's cigarettes in the trash. I'd imagine most parents would be touched by something like that, since I was 5 and his father had recently passed away from lung cancer.

Nope.

the anti-smoking commercials highlight 1 person who got lung cancer or some other consequence, and ignore the other 9,999 who lived healthy lives while smoking

i didn't and still don't give a shit about whether smoking hurts my parents. i wanted them to quit because i knew what it was doing to my health. they wouldn't even go outside. they'll never have my sympathy when they're dying of lung cancer either.

I had a conversation about this kind of thing the other night with my husband.

We don't smoke, but we both drink excessively and play on the computer excessively. Now that Silas is a year old, we know that it won't be long before he starts to notice things. He's not going to be happy just sitting next to daddy while he raids on WoW. And he won't want to spend his morning playing in his playpen while mommy sleeps off a hangover.

It's getting time for us to shape up!

Actually he might be. WoW is quite colorful and entertaining, and children do tend to like watching video games.
