I did a carb binge yesterday to reset the cycle. Tonight around 8pm I went from being the happiest dude in the world to having my emotions all over the damn wall for no apparent reason. WTF?

placebo! man the fuck up

dunno, there likely is a connection between going from a ketotic state and then an insulin spike

I dunno. When my body was consuming itself (as yours is right now) when my pancreas finally decided to start giving me a hard fucking time around when I was 17 I noticed that my testicles shrank three sizes (grinch style) in a month or two.

More than likely your blood sugar got all out of whack and you felt like shit because you've been robbing your body of essential nutrients for however long. It's going to make you feel like shit. That's why it's a fad diet that you're going to give up on in lieu of staying overweight/doing the ol improved diet and exercise thing.

i did atkins and lost a shit ton of weight in a very short period of time

and felt like shit doing it...i was a raging bitch and constantly had a headache

it also fucks up your ability to lose weight normally later on...

if you're committed to it for the long haul then I say stick with it if you can handle it....but it's not to be used as a quick fix unless you're ready for some long term issues

I am currently in ketosis, with no thought of a "binge" to reset the cycle. Not really sure why you would do that, but whatever.

The reason your emotions got like that is probably because of the crash. Similar to when a kid eats a lot of sugar then comes down off of it and gets all bitchy.

I lost 3 pants sizes by eating less and walking more

do you want to lose weight or get healthy?

you've got to be retarded to think that eating bacon cheeseburgers without a bun is a legitimate way of improving your life

there is a right way and a wrong way to eat low carb. it is very possible to eat low carb and still eat healthy

it should be mentioned that if you're one of those "I'm in no way an athlete but I powerwalk and have adopted vegetarianism" then your opnion on atkins doesn't really hold water

good thing I don't hold op-onions on anything

because that isn't really a word

I'm no vegetarian, either

but you're right - I'm no expert
I'm only basing this off of things I've heard from my mother, a physical trainer, and my girlfriend, a medical student

honestly wasn't referring to just you snewf.

I don't like people who believe in extremes either way, if you're eating hardees without the bun that's the wrong answer but if you're a low-fat/high-carb person then you're wrong as well. Both extremes are stupid

I eat a couple eggs in the morning
Salad for lunch
Chicken/steak and veggies for dinner

That seems pretty healthy to me

I had a bagel with pb&j w/ a cup of earl grey for b'fast this morning

at lunch I'll have some egg salad on good ass bread and a carrot

dinner I'll have some leftover beef stew

everything seems wholesome but it probably has too many carbs for my level of physical activity on this freezing fucking 31 degree morning - gonna stay inside most of the day

I typically try to stay between 20g-30g of carbs per day while still limiting my fat intake. I also work out 5 days a week. Once I get down to my desired weight I will start eating more carbs to help fuel my workouts.

That bagel alone is a carbohydrate nightmare, Atkins or not. I cannot eat bagels; they totally put me to sleep.

As far as a "hormonal" screwup with Atkins? slingblade, if you're referring to insulin and your mental well-being, hell yes.

I remember doing exactly what you just did...about 10 years ago. Of course my carb binge was seven pints of Red Oak at the Pour House one night, after being on the induction phase of Atkins for a couple of weeks.

I did a faceplant right in the middle of the floor in the Pour House. My friends had to haul me out, and across Moore Square to the car. Threw me in the back, and when we got home, I fell out and started throwing up. The next 24 hours, I wanted to die, I felt so bad. Lost count of how many times I hurled. I got to where I could finally hold a little food down at about 11pm the next day. And I wasn't right for about two days after. Even missed a day of work.

Sudden changes like that are sure as hell gonna affect your mental and physical well-being. You owe it to yourself to be a little smarter about the whole thing.

it was a whole grain "mini" bagel

which means it is not 3 servings of carbs but actually only 1

Oh it definitely sucked! I seriously think there's no such thing as a good diet. A diet implies that you make abrupt or radical changes in your lifestyle...and big changes like that are a bitch to maintain. Best thing to do is just balance your intake with your expenditure. Or create a slight deficit so you lose. And don't deviate grossly from a good, normal, balanced intake.

his brain was probably ecstatic since his body didnt have to break down his muscles to make glucose.

I love how people will knock a diet because of it's impact on the body, but still go out and get hammered every weekend.

i have no gas problems actually. now I did have gas problems when I was eating like shit and drinking beer. and it should also be known that this will not be my permanent diet. this is just a short-term, 3-week diet to help get down to my desired weight. Once I am there, I will start ramping back up the carbs as I increase my workout routine.

hmm fat stores: i can watch the albumin and pre albumin levels of a patient PLUMMET from just a few days of not being fed for whatever reason(impending intubation, not tolerating feeds etc)

those are the 2 lab values that determine a persons nutritional status.

peoples muscles start breaking down very soon when they dont eat. you can watch them atrophy over time.

we have a 160kg patient on the unit that hasnt lost a DAMN BIT of the fat on her body.

but she sure was ketogenic when we couldnt feed her due to feeding tube complications.

evolution has wired our bodies to hang on to the fat as long as we can.

no one is saying to go eat a pack of bagels............just go eat some fucking veggies, i saw what the OP eats in his laxative thread and he isnt getting nearly enough veggies...........which is why he cant take a fucking shit without resorting to a laxative.

no, i take care of more crack, meth, and drunk drivers who are now quads.

uncontrolled hypertension plus crack, coke, and meth == blood vessel blowouts.

and the occaisional person who thinks its a good idea to get drunk and not wear a seatbelt and drive their car thru a few brick walls
